You fitted a different compressor housing to the one in the first pictures or is it a complete different turbo?

I was thinking that, hotside looks different too, or that could be due to different compressor side Undecided

Cheers dude, it's only 2.5" but tbh couldn't fit any bigger without welding the downpipe to the turbo housing which I'm not keen on!

Sorry there must be some confusion, there is currently three turbos in the mix with this project.

Current aim is to get GT2052S bolted on which is the one sat next to a TD04L in the most recent pictures.

Uhh maybe...

That's the adapter plate for the TD05.

Also won a GT2256V (like new) off eBay.

Looks like you are going about this the right way, especially compared to the previous owners antics with those springs! Found any other nice surprises?

Is that an old miller you have access to there? Handy bit of kit for jobs like that! Smile

Hah, cheers Paul.

The sills are bent in every direction, clearly jacking points were ignored for a longgggggg time. End of the day no value in the shell anyway, it's all in the parts. If/when it's too feked can always reshell.

Yeah, access to many ninja things, just not very regularly... Wink

Turbos basically finished, just waiting on one last weld to the downpipe and it's good to go.
Have also ordered some silicones and 3" flexi so just need to decide on an air filter. Ideally I'd like an enclosed one mounted behind the rad with two cold air feeds ramming air in from front fog holes (ph3).

Probably stick with a cheapo one for the minute whilst I get it road worthy then worry about it later..

Some pics of the actuator that ok extremely proud of..

So the V band sits too far over, no use unfortunately.

Otherwise it's in, needs few more bits and bobs.

Will hopefully turn it over Tue or Wed evening.

Got some more bits in the post for it.

Big thank you to Mark as always for being a Jedi.

Having had both, TD04L wins for simplicity / ease of installation and cost hands down and is a fun turbo.

No idea how this ones going to drive but it costs twice-three times as much and is a general PITA.

Well you probablly think its awesome when its going though. The question is. Is it worth the effort. Been looking into a few turbos and these seem pretty good.

I did think you may have an issue with the V band down pipe. I had the same issue with the turbo on my car that Sam had had a nice down pipe made up with a V band clamp i had to get rid of

Mhm, a b'tch really, shame to waste it..

Anyway..

It's all back together (minus the headlights, arches, bumper, grille etc).

Not really sure how to bleed it so just filled the rad, then popped a bottle upside down in it with the top cut off and filled with water.

Then opened the bleed point near the fuel filter housing until water appeared with no bubbles, then did the same with the bleed point at inlet to radiator until no bubbles. Topping up the bottle as I went (as needed) and repeated this process for about 10-15 minutes until car was up to temp (76*c).

Pictures of putting bits back together:
