well spotted haha, yes i believe it is a twin entry turbo as the engine it was designed for was a 6 cylinder

yeah that sounds like a good future improvement. highly reccommend twin entry turbos though, it spools up as fast as a turbo half its size

and if what i have read is right it should spool up even faster when you separate the cylinders into the right pairs

Gti brakes on the front should honestly feel plenty good enough, maybe they just need a service. Mine weren't so good a few months ago, turned out a slider was seized. They are great again now.
Only place I've ever seen refurbed beams is eBay, around 250-350 I think. Not a bad price I'd say looking at how much it would cost for two shafts and the bearings.
Nice car btw ill be keeping and eye on its progress. Interested to learn more about the type of turbo, sounds like it spools up very quickly for its size.

As Andy says, 406 Brembo calipers from a V6 are a good upgrade. They do squeel quite badly at low speeds but if you can live with it they're fine.

If you fit the hubs and carriers as well I believe the squealing is virtually eliminated
