The Racetractor. The End.
(01-11-2014, 09:01 AM)Niall Wrote: No point in skimming a head if it's true. I've never understood people who skim them regardless when the majority of the time, you can just take it to an engine shop and they will check it with a straight edge for free. Or you can do it your self if you have a straight edge.

I can see where you're coming from Niall but I'm part of getting it skimmed regardless.

If it's apart just get it done in my eyes, better doing the job once not twice

Theres only one way too resolve this...

In hereford I could get it done for beers/£25 depending on how soon I needed it.

I need it back up and running by next week, my LOCAL engineers is witney. Their£140 inc the vat.

I cant see why the head would be warped but will get it checked anyway. There is serious downsides to just getting a skim if you dont need it. If the head is true and you skim it, how much will they remove...then you need to calculate how thick the HG needs to be...thats if they didnt take so much off that it is unusable!

And, as it turns out, the first HG issue I had when I built it up and it was pressurizing was my fault...not the head being warped ninja

Was that a bit of tapping I heard as you drove it off the dyno? Tongue

And I would rather do a HG once a year and have over 200bhp and twice the amount of torque of yours Tongue

I asked the same queston on one of the 1.9's i did, i cant remember who but was told it was ok to reuse and they all do it

Hmm I see what you mean, it doesn't look like a surface crack does it?
Thanks given by:
Wouldn't risk putting that back on
Thanks given by:
same here, there's cracks and there's CRACKS....

get it to a head specialist, it looks like that chamber has moved too, they can be changed in most engines.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

From what was said in that previous thread about cracked pre cups I wouldn't worry to much, all tho could be worth getting them checked to be sure.

Thanks given by:

Hopefully spike has a spare for me

I know sod all about diesels but that doesn't look too good! Im assuming too much heat would of caused that?

It looks like a nice chunk of precup was ready to eat your piston tbh
Thanks given by:
That does not look good, anyway you can get another decent head rather than a repair might be cheaper
On a break from 306oc for personal reasons. If anyone needs or wants me most of you have my number and or facebook messenger
Thanks for the good times guys n gals. I might be back. Who knows.
Thanks given by:
Yeah that head aint guna be used again Undecided

Spikes got one for me. Have to do a rebuild on it. But no HG yet anyway so may not actually hold me back, just £30 of new gaskets/seals

Thanks given by:
does look like quite bad cracking wouldn't be too long before the cracks lead to a leaking head if bits didn't fall in the cylinder first anyone worked out why they crack anything to do with injector flow?
Thanks given by:
Mostly heat n pressure

Thanks given by:
how did it look last time you had it off? are they actually loose in the head?
Thanks given by:
They had like one tiny minor crack on each.

I'll have a pick at them once I have my replacement head Smile

So.
Thanks to spike, got another 2.1 head.

Stripped them both down today. Just the valves to remove. But I got a raging cold and feel like death so stopped!
Looks good though. Hope to have NO worn hydraulic tappets as I can pick the best from the two heads. Although the unknown 'new' head seems to have very little internal wear despite the horrid crusty and oily exterior!!
Whats odd is that the left hand valve hydraulic tappet head on each inlet pair is worn but not the right?!

Video just editing...

In other news:

holy fuuuk, they're OLLLLD.

check the dates, but I really doubt they would be fit to use as anything but tyre wall.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

Yeah man, I had a set of 17's on the Punto that came with tyres, they all went flat one by one at the most inconvenient times.

Thought it was people just being overly cautious but I've had it happen to me first hand now and I'd never buy old tyres again (unless they're purely for shredding with epic burn outs in a RWD).

check the dates, but Longstone tyres sell them as tyres for 80's and 90's classics!

anything more than 6 years on a michelin is dicing with hard objects...

6 years? Is that roughly the same for all tyres? Pretty sure I've used tyres considerably older than that in the past lol.
Thanks given by:
Yeah 6yrs is on it. These arent that old though! Well stored too. No signs of age at all tbf. For the price I'll give em a go!

(they still sell them new fyi)

One pair of tyres on my 'clones were used on and off from 2009 to this year...they were getting on a bit when I bought them as well! lol

Keep meaning to check the date on the Focus tyres tbf...wondering if they're still original.
