Track is a different matter entirely, but on the road... You really can't use them hard enough... If you are, you're driving like a dickwad.
If you're going for the porno factor - that's fine, but don't claim they're for a road performance benefit...

Not really an update, but...
I've been gathering shiny bits and there's a few things need sorting, here's the job list as it stands.
Fit coilovers and adjustable rear shocks.
Maybe lower the rear a bit.
Fit GTi6 Brakes when they arrive.
Finish fitting my boost gauge.
Fit MBC.
Wire up my air horns.
Spare wheel cage.
Swap to a working set of clocks, need to sort how to keep the mileage though.
Could do with a polish and wax.
Repair floor mats cos I'm too much of a cheapskate to buy a set.
Move the LED for the alarm to the middle of the dash to cover some holes there.
Sort the trailer wiring cos it's broken.
Shouldn't take long!

Thats a fair old list of parts mate.
If you look at cullys in dash boost gauge guide theres detaills of how to keep your mileage.
How are your clocks not working, could it be a multiplug come undone or a fuse?

Yeah, scary how many jobs there are when you write it down!
The clocks.. well they're stuffed. Only thing that works apart from the mileage LCD is the speedo. Fuel reads whatever it likes unless you tap it, then it will just go to 1/4 no matter what. Revs work but the needle does not move smoothly, it jumps randomly up and down. And the temperature has never come off the stop.
I fitted the set from my old 1.6 petrol, and it all works fine.

I reckon I can do it all in a weekend, apart from lowering the rear as I haven't done it before and it looks like a bit of a mission.
Dum-Dum, when was it last serviced? It probably needs it anyway by now lol.
