"Carl and Jonny" is C.gerrard and Jonny81191
This was supposed to be unveiled at PPCITP without anyone knowing, but we've decided to put up a project thread and let you all know what we're up to!
The reason for the new account is so that we can both update the project thread.
We started with a standard blaze 3dr MOT failure, picked up for £300 from blackburn. It was on 180,000 miles, standard lucas and k14, not too bad condition really, but there were a few issues. Such as after being ragged up and down Carl's drive, it would run without the key and all the dashboard lights on!

So we stalled it and ripped all the interior out
Then the engine in Carl's sigma packed up, so we simply replaced his with the one in the blaze, fitted his bosch and T2 and put the "spare" engine in the shed ready to rebuild.

We then built a massive shed to prep and spray the shell in, the colour will be revealed later on

Once under cover, we removed the doors, all the glass, the fuel tank and.. Well everything really! We haven't seen a 306 this stripped out

Then we rolled it onto it's side to strip the underside and repair the couple of rusty bits on the chassis rails.

As it stands, that's where we're up to at the moment.
The plans are to fully prep it for track use, with the emphasis on hillclimbing. We also want to keep it as light as possible, preferably sub 900kgs.
Engine wise, we're going to need to look into the rules and regs, as fun as it would be to bolt on a huge blower and make silly power, we don't want to end up competing against cars which would make us very uncompetitive. But we do have a TD04, and a GT2052, just in case

Awesome project mate, I'll be keeping an eye on this. I love that you've just built a shed around the car. Quality.

Hopefully, we'd like it to be done for April.
Actually, a select few may be able to come view it when you lot come up for the meet
But, yeah the underseal is an absolute b*tch. I reckon I've spent near enough a day scrapping away!

Underseal. I will forever hate it. I tried a 9" angle grinder with a BFO wire brush today, still a PITA

get a variety of drill wire brush sizes, gets the worst of it off then switch to a flap disc on the grinder to get the remains off. best way ive ever found of stripping underseal and seamsealer off a car.
my mate had an ex cituning demo car, good inspiration for just how much stuff you can drill holes in to shave off a few grams haha

Yeah, we've got pretty much every size under the sun, but just a bit of hard work and we'll get there. Using a blow torch and a chisel was mega effective as well.
The damn shed is getting more attention than the car. To be fair, that thing was worthy of its own project thread. As you can see my house is quite exposed, so we are on the second roof now! One problem is that when it properly pisses it down, water collects in places and makes the material sag.

Hammer drill with chisel attachment. Should be cold enough up there in the arctic circle or it to just chip off!

Mate we're gonna try and get it all done this saturday, 2x anglegrinders with wire cup brushes, start early and don't stop 'till it's finished!

Cheers mate! The plans will unfold fairly quickly if this thing's gonna be ready for PPCITP (realistically 5 months.. shiiiit)

go to wickes and get some sheet wood of some sort then just put the plastic sheeting over it. Or, that corrugated clear roofing plastic is quite cheap

not when the shed is 3.6x5.5 metres would be getting expensive, and as it's only a temporary thing, it's not such an issue.

so unless ive missed the answer, will this be road legal? Do hill climb cars have to be road legal? (i know pugfest isn't exactly a proper race)

No it won't initially, but we're not gonna shoot ourselves in the *feet?* by doing stuff that will make life hard for us if we wanted to make it road legal in the future.
Hillclimbers don't have to be road legal, it's just that a fair number of them are as they're also weekend toys.

Surely you have to be ridiculously careful about what you attack with the hole-saw, or else you'll end up with a wobbly chassis

Of course not, all we can assure you is that no 306 has been the colour we have in mind
Yeah, as nice as it would be to have it road legal, it would be too much effort!
