head nearly all built up...very happy...apart from having to drop in at gsf for a valve stem seal as the dog chewed one up! 95p poorer!

you can see why the 2.1 has clearance issues with the bonnet...the head is so much taller than the 1.9 head

also nabbed myself 90L of veg oil cheap, a stealth shelf cheap and a GTi ARB, rear n/s arch liner, and the plastic boot trim edge thingy.

happy. Smile

PS hoping to do a final scrub and paint that head...just light coat of VHT silver to brighten it up

Got to work on me new seats...thanks to friends with a upholstery cleaner!...

Update on the engine...been feeling right in the dumps, events, time of year, weather etc...so got up the motivation and did some work....happy too as it perked me up and stopped me being a right old grumpy git for a couple of hours....

so....removed sump, cleaned sump, painted sump. replaced crank shaft seal.
fitted the 1.9 flywheel after a clean and polish.
fitted nice new clutch.
replaced HDi box clutch fork arm etc with XUD ones...
replaced gearbox input shaft seal.

phew

fitted all box..

cleaned up block top and pistons for the last time...

and timed it up and got the headgasket all ready
[Image: 20130412_161113_zps7c98e3da.jpg]

HEAD ON!

yeeha!

felt so good I thought I would start cleaning the bits yet to go on...
so the intake manifold...

hopefully you can tell that the left half is dirty but has been heavily washed, the right side has had the polishing started...2nd from right intake section just wired up, the far right section some serious buffing....

what do you think? I was just going to paint it, but I think it looks sweet....hopefully do some other parts to match

oh and stealth ftw

getting there!

I could go further, but most of the pieces you see there sit BEHIND the engine...I love in the inlet but again its mostly hidden unfortunately...the pump, cradle and other bits you cant see will be much more mirror polished

painted rocker cover on....beesknees...

Welding and fabrication projects undertaken, contact me for more information.

My target is FCS. Want to be all done by then. I want it all spot on so dont want to rush for the hillclimb and fooby something up

more polishing done today...takes FOREVER...but getting there...

next job is to strip and clean pump and then build the 11mm hybrid

Fit all the shinies and then trial fit it minus exhaust mani....the current one is completely useless...no idea why they even made it...

cant believe how long its been since i last posted.
Mad mad month

But actually DID something today...

11mm, gov mod, lda grind. all in 3.5 hours inc polishing. quite pleased with that.
Although, I am a bit stumped as to where to place my throttle arm on the splines....??

any thoughts?

Next plans:
clean up starter/alternator/PAS pump.
fit all the above and injection pump.
trial fit of engine

then:
clean up and clock turbo.
mock up turbo piping
clean/paint/weld engine bay
fit all the above...
then:
build up suspension/polybushing etc
fit all the interior
weld r/n/s inner arch.
paint and repair exterior.
fit rear beam and gti brakes
swap windscreens

done. simples ConfusedConfusedConfused

dont think FCS is going to happen Sad

A lot of self! Wire wheel on drill, then on dremel, then 1000wetNdry, then metal polish. repeating each stage a couple times! takes too long. lol

oh, engine degreaser after wire wheels, using stiff brush to get to awkward bits

Although didnt get as far as wanted as the sump took more "modifying" than I realised to mount the XUD aux setup.

cant really see it there, but theres a few chunks of alloy that had to come off....FYI when grinding a alloy sump, wear face protection, stuff gets everywhere! In fact, cover EVERYTHING!

got manifold EGR "blank" done...

welded, sealed, painted.

Hope to get the belt on tonight, all timed up.
then trial fitment! Smile
