So going to service the GTI next week just wondering what people recommend. I was thinking Bosch super 4 plugs but not sure what grade or make oil to use. I'm new to this petrol thing.

Just stick to standard NGKs. The gti engine responds best to them and can in fact respond worse to these expensive gimmicky ones!

They should always be checked before fitting, really. Not many people do, though

^^^This. You never know how they leave the factory and how they've been transported.

As said, the should be set at factory but worth a check.

Dont forget a dab of copper slip on the thread to make it easier to service next time!

Does anyone clock their plugs on gti's?

I always use NGK plugs best there is IMHO and any decent oil will do the job, Halfrauds were doing 4ltr of fully synth for a tenner recently which is great value but a decent semi-synth would be fine for normal day to day running, I wouldn't bother with super expensive 'premium'
oils whist most are undoubtedly super quality they are generally overkill for normal spec engines doing daily runs.

I put bosch super 4 spark plugs in two different engines (one fiat one bmw) both of which were allergic to them!

They kept unscrewing themselves making the car chuff! :/
