Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Jtrigga - 18-07-2013 So going to service the GTI next week just wondering what people recommend. I was thinking Bosch super 4 plugs but not sure what grade or make oil to use. I'm new to this petrol thing. RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - ginge191 - 18-07-2013 go onto opie oils, check the car reg etc. they give specific oil for that car. awesome source sparks; i know unipart are the same as NGK plugs RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Niall - 18-07-2013 Just stick to standard NGKs. The gti engine responds best to them and can in fact respond worse to these expensive gimmicky ones! Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Jtrigga - 18-07-2013 Just had a quick look on eBay what about these? http://bit.ly/13R5C4T RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Niall - 18-07-2013 Perfect Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Jtrigga - 24-07-2013 So my spark plugs arrived today I was just wondering will they need to be gapped. Some people say they do others say they don't so im not sure. RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Curt - 25-07-2013 They should always be checked before fitting, really. Not many people do, though RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Grant - 25-07-2013 ^^^This. You never know how they leave the factory and how they've been transported. RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Piggy - 25-07-2013 As said, the should be set at factory but worth a check. Dont forget a dab of copper slip on the thread to make it easier to service next time! Does anyone clock their plugs on gti's? RE: Recommend me spark plugs and oil. - Niall - 25-07-2013 Check the gap but 99% they will be bang on. I always use NGK plugs best there is IMHO and any decent oil will do the job, Halfrauds were doing 4ltr of fully synth for a tenner recently which is great value but a decent semi-synth would be fine for normal day to day running, I wouldn't bother with super expensive 'premium' oils whist most are undoubtedly super quality they are generally overkill for normal spec engines doing daily runs. I put bosch super 4 spark plugs in two different engines (one fiat one bmw) both of which were allergic to them! They kept unscrewing themselves making the car chuff! :/ |
