Not guna whip the valves out for new seals and regrinding?

I will be doing that and valve clearances. Do you reckon it's best to grind the valves in before or after the skim?

Makes no odds, the skim wont come in contact with the valve seats.
Doesnt even own a 306.

I just like the send a completely bare head...can be cleaing up the valves while its being done.

Plus always worth inspecting valve seats and guides in case any are damaged or need replacing

Got a little bit more done tonight. Got the pistons all cleaned up ready for the new rings

Got the new rings fitted to the pistons

Then had an accident. Not sure what to do know really. Im prob going to see if I can get a set of rings for just 1 piston but if I cant I will use an oil ring that come off with a new spring.

Then a bit more bad luck with a pretty deep cut to my thumb

It wouldn't stop bleeding and I was getting blood all over the pistons so I did a quick repair

Then I could crack on again and connected up the pistons and rods

And that was about it for tonight. Just need to try and sorting something out about the piston ring tomorrow

I think I will get it skimmed then sort out grinding the valves in etc

How do you put piston rings on pistons? Do they stretch enough to get over the piston?

Been a few weeks since i updated this. Not done a massive amount more but i will update with what i have done.

I got another power steering bracket off craigus's engine so it will save me swapping so many bits over. Had a slight issue with the allen key bolts not wanting to come undone. I cracked the heat out they then soon come undone

I finally got the rods and pistons back in to the block the other day as well

Then pop the oil squirters back in and the oil pump on

I decided to go with a steel sump in the end rather than an alloy 1. So i gave it a paint and then popped it on with new gasket and sealant

I've got the head pretty much ready to be bolted back on to the block now after grinding the valves in and checking the valve clearances.

And thats about as far as the engine is at the moment. I hope to maybe get the head bolted down this week.

I decided while the car is off the road i would whip the axle apart again and fit all new seals as i knew the axle was pretty good. Got all the seals from peugeot and we get pretty good price from peugeot at work i think which is ideal, though i did have to get some bits in more than a pair but always good to have spares i guess.

Axle came apart like a dream but that was expected as i had it a part not that long ago

Off came the main tube seals. They looked fairly worn out

And all back together. I used new anti roll bar seals as well and new offset washer etc

Right i finally got round to bolting the head on. So head studs in

Head gasket on, I went for a 5 notch vitor reinz

And then the head bolted down and torqued up

Had a slight issue as i left 1 of the nuts on my toolbox down work so had to pop down work which was bit of a pain.

Also got a few shinies. Had a devil stainless steel exhaust pop up local on Dturbo fb page so i got that

Yeah I prob don't require the studs with this turbo but they are something good to have and as ZX did the group buy it was rude not to get a set.

My turbo is some form of K03 not very big but comes on boost nice and early. Though on the subject of turbos I have bought a gt2056 off ebay as it seemed pretty cheap (£60 plus £10 postage) but im not sure what it will be like and im waiting for it to turn up

And the pump isn't a 11mm its a 10mm Smile

Starting to get some of the bits bolted back onto the engine. So got the pump, injectors and oil cooler on

Cam belt pulleys and water pump. Went for a Gates kit which inclued the water pump. Need to drop the engine off the stand to bolt flywheel on to then time it up and fit cam belt

On the weekend i fitted another sunroof as well to hopefully sort out my leak. I didnt seal it in with rtv this time though. I put some Vaseline around the glass seal to hopefully help. I'm also going to fit a new aerial just in case that was leaking

I got the cam belt kit from a motor factors we use at work. Think it was just over £80 though.

Yeah pretty lucky with places to work tbf. Building the engine up my mates farm in the garage where we have done a fair few engine changes etc over the years. Luckily I will do the engine change down work so will be able to use the ramp to make life easier.

I do hope this cures my water leak issuse
