okay todays update.
Tom arrived. Tom left. I arrived. Tom Arrived and finally we were both there. Car up, wheels off, brakes off, discs off, beam off, bias valve off, other bits off. Brake lines broken so ordered a new roll of brake line and the M10x1mm joints. Should be set to go as soon as that arrives which will either be this week or next. plenty to be doing though. I dropped off the new parts today which were solid beam mounts, group N engine mounts, aftermarket rad fans, full cambelt kit, oil cooler kit and all the service parts. Had a quick test of the fans to make sure that two of them would fit on the rad as i only had one previously. No idea what brand they are but one worked perfectly on the 1.8 so two should be enough on the hotter 6. We also ran the engine for just under ten minutes and it didnt knock at all. Probably because it wasnt up to temperature. Neighbours were in so couldnt run it for longer however next time we are there if they go out itll be getting a longer time running. if its knocking again ive got a engine lined up which i can collect any evening or weekend! big thanks to tom as he did most of the work with me helping occasionally. I got the garage tidied up, binned loads of parts and rubbish and created more space for us to work on. ive also brought the coilovers, washer bottle, throttlebodies and rear brakes home to clean up for next weekend. Lots still to be getting on with whilst the brake lines are being delivered.

Isn't the whole point of Black Rallyes the rarity!?
29-12-2015, 01:32 PM

yeh its the rarity however because they are so rare... they are probably going to end up the most common as they are the one people want to keep...
like lets take escort cosworths... youll probably see loads more cosworths in the future than escorts because nobody wants to keep a standard escort!

Nice going dude. Almost inspired to go and do the cambelt on my 6 now, but not quite enough yet :p

It has probably arrived but its at my house and i wont be around until after the weekend to give it to tom. We are also waiting for the neighbours to be out to then run the engine hot and see if it knocks again. If it does it will be easier to do the subframe swap when the engine is out etc so it will all happen at once! Also not many shines from here on in as im buying a new boat which will me saving for most of htis year. luckily we have almost everything we need and i cna still afford a new engine.

Insurance update. This is now insured. Swapped the 1.8 for the rallye on the policy for no extra apart from the £25 changing details charge. Not sure whether it genuinely didnt change the price or the note left from when I took out the policy did the trick. All good!

So, found some motivation for this, this afternoon. Also have a few old pics that couldn't get off the phone without pulling the memory card lol.
So hopefully Sam's got a spare rear console as it looks like the hulk's been at it... And it's a good job he's got a new exhaust to go on as this is the current state of the old one lol... The spare on the Rallye doesn't hold air for some reason... So onto todays progress...well, kinda. Firstly, are the ARB end plates meant to be flat? Is this one scrap? Gave up on ARB fitting after seeing that so tried to get the damn shock bolt out that theoretically isn't held in by anything. No amount of whacking with a heavy lump hammer is getting it to even budge! It seems to have welded itself to the metal sleeve inside the shock mount, anyone seen that before? I had been 'tickling' it with a punch to save wrecking the bolt, before getting frustrated and unleashing fury on it directly hence the slightly mushroomed end now lol, makes no difference though as I guess it'll need cutting out anyway. I assume the metal sleeve can be replaced fairly cheaply? And possibly the rubber mount as well? Gave up on that as well, pick it up later. Having given up on shocks and ARB (going well ), moved on to fitting the load compensator to the new beam...easy apparently, just bolts straight on...wait, no there's a metal bracket in the way. Unfortunately it wasn't a crappy weld either as I thought it might just whack off, no such luck haha. Only option was to pull the arm from the Rallye beam and use that...more shock bolts to remove lol, those were easy enough that time though. Also fitted the solid mounts...mmm shiny. So that's how it sits currently... Can someone show me where the lower flexi pipe brackets fit, as I don't seem to have any on there and don't remember removing them before. Would've fitted the braided flexi's as well if I had the brackets lol. Also, found some odd marking on the tube, not sure what it means, possibly denotes the stiffness of the ARB? To finish the afternoon, I pulled the arm off the 1.8 beam with the good shock still attached as there's no way either of us is going to get that bolt out. I'm guessing the best option is to have it pressed/cut out by a friendly local mechanic?
13-01-2016, 08:19 PM
cut the bolt down the side of the bracket and the damper will drop out, fit a new bush sleeve.
I'd get some bilsteins tbh, avos are wank.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.
hahah! i remember that drawing! blame your leader and grant!
How the hell did you do that to that poor flag! you can try flatten it but id bin it personally. Turn your shock bolts around youll never remove them once in the car else!

The bolt would need to be cut both ends of the sleeve but we just don't have tools to do that...well I have a hacksaw but I'm not spending 4 hours and 500 blades trying to get through that haha.
The AVOs match the coilovers at the front. Are the sleeves readily available or are they special sizes or anything? Guessing that's what I'd call the end plate lol? I don't know where this ARB came from, it's a GTi one as the beam Sam gave you had a crappy skinny one in lol. Not sure how we're gonna remove that without a vice though. Edit - Noted about the shock bolt, I did wonder if they had to be a specific way lol.

you wont remove it in a vice lol looks like someone has tried removing it by levering it on the arm lol
