Toms306s Project - Fodge!
Garrett won't refurb or supply parts for refurbing any VNT turbo...

http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk/technica ... ochargers/

Read there for their lame-ass reasons to buy a brand new turbo...

Cheeky bastards!

EDIT: Be wary of ebay turbos, mostly replica units which in fairness - are shit.

Is this your new Golf where the turbo has blown?

Wasn't related to your DIY remapping was it?
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

Trust me, if Tom struggles to get a turbo off or fix his computer, I'd be fairly sure there's no DIY remapping going on... Just putting on another persons map...

Yeah....well tbh the car was high milage and had taken some abuse anyway (hence the DMF being f*cked even before the map)....the turbo was always chucking out a bit of grey smoke (again before the map) but I never really thought anything of it as the old one was the same.

The map certainly didn't help the dmf though, and did break the turbo as a) I didnt get a boost gauge in quick enough and b) the maps made for a 150 turbo anyway...I just couldn't (and still can't) find one, so I got impatient and put the map on anyway. Tongue However, no-one else has had a problem with this map, but with any mod, if its on its last legs...the mod will break it....

Blimey tom you're managing to break these golfs quicker than you can buy them lol

tom if the car wasnt well to start with why the hell did you 1 buy it 2 remap it if you knew the said parts were not well?
always make sure the engines nice and healthy 1st before a map,
at least you have got the turbo out anyway so what happens now?

It was fine when I bought it....but as usual, a week later the problems start to show. I think its when cars are sat for sale not being driven everything gets a rest.....then I start doing 50 miles a day in then and they can't take it, cos I looked over this one damn well, twice before buying! :problem:

With the turbo, I naively thought is find a 150 turbo for a reasonable price a week or two after the map so there wouldn't be a problem....clearly this wasn't the case, and I admit that's my fault entirely.

As for what happens now, I really don't know, maybe ill call the scrappy to take it away. I wouldn't have taken the turbo off if I'd known it couldn't be refurbd.

christ tom, you cannot scrap it ffs!! you have just spend 2k on buying pal!
is there not another turbo you can put on? ie from a less specd golf or a vag counter part.
i just cannot see who this model be that rare for parts! when there are loads of golfs about.
what was the place of getting a 400 quid turbo you mentioned? mite that be worth a shot. also the dmf you mite get a discount on too, some motorfactors do that too.
also sorry if it sounded nasty tom pal if you thought i was. just remember to give a " new car" some bedding in time with you. as you dont always know what faults its gonna throw at you.
another thing tom, your cracking lad! i hate to see anyone fail on what they set their minds too.

I can't see that there is no turbos or similar about that you can't fit. Either that or take your broken one to a specialist to repair.

Nah, you're alright mate, I understood you perfectly, was just in a shite mood earlier.

I'm not really gonna scrap it, worst comes to worst ill sell it for spares.

The turbo is the same on all 130 tdi vags (but not all vags use the same manifold) and the 150 one fits too. I think the problem I'm having is that the engines are sold with the turbo attached, so very few seoerate turbos about. There are now a few direct replacement turbos on ebay (so not really big enough to take the map) but I think that's all I can afford really....just gotta hope they work. After that the car will get sold, I can barely afford to sort the turbo so certainly can't sort the dmf too.

It's a shame not to finish the project but end of the day it comes down to money, or lack of it, as with everything. Sad

I wouldn't say it was a complete waste though, I've learned a hell of a lot from it and it did well as ny college project. Smile

Garett don't sell replacement parts for them!

And the main problem is getting the manifold to match as its complete with my turbo....not seperate unfortunately.

if it turns out cheeper to buy a full engine with turbo then id just do that, when i engine went on my rover. i was in too minds to buy another donor car just for its engine. as the price was going to be the same. also you could either sell the engine on or use it to learn about. ie doing a timing belt, headgasket etc.

Yes, curt, as I said there are a few direct replacements, 2 of the ones you found would fit...but the top ones oily anyway so probably already blown a seal.

I'm not sure what that engine is, its bot the same code AA miner so would have to see the mani before knowing if it fits
Will get on ebay in colege in w bit.

Right, I'm stuck on what to do now, ideally want the car back OTR on tuesday at the very latest.......

I cant really afford the turbo.........but will I lose more than £400 selling it with a broken turbo? I assume I would.

So I could buy this on that curt posted - its only a 130 one and is potentially broken looking at the oil at the inlet...for £300 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320907328378? ... 1438.l2649

OR a recon'd 150 one for £400 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TURBO-CHARGER ... a6bc1#shId

Am I likely to get more money selling it with the 150 turbo upgrade over the 130 along with all the other mods? I just don't know what to do. Sad

I could dig into savings yeah, bout the only option tbh. But obviously what I spend on this I can't spend on a 'new' car.

If you're set on a new car flog the golf for around £4-500 cheaper than you would of with a working turbo, you're going to be a few hundred down whichever option you choose

Doesn't quite work that easy though.....no-ones gonna pay ~£1700 for a car that doesn't even run atm lol. :?

Its not £40 a week, thats just the 'basic' rate if you like, I do various things at weekends to earn money too.

However, I saved a fair amount of money from when I was working....plus due to not so great circumstances, have had 3 lotsof inheritance fairly recently.

I don't mind buying cars as you can 'most' of the money back, I mean I can't lose out ona £400 NAD lol, but when it comes to expensive parts breaking....thats when I realise I really can't afford a VAG tbh.

I know I'll get plenty of 'told you so' but meh, I was still working when I bought the first golf, I wasn't to know what would happen shortly after that.

I know what you mean about the vag thing, that's kinda how I feel about the Skoda. Spent a fortune getting it right and I can't enjoy driving it because I flinch at every noise it makes. I've been offered my old Audi 80 back at a good price, I'm really tempted because that car was mint.
