Yeah, I thought I'd try something different. They look and fit better, plus it's something more solid to kick against. I'll get a pic later, I haven't finished yet though, trying to get covers to fit but I lost my Focal ones Sad.

Forgot yet more photos...

Positive terminal wasn't very well shall we say, so I replaced it with a spare I had:

Then the speaker spacer in black:

I also trimmed a universal grill to fit, but I've decided it's too big and I don't like it. At least it stops me from kicking it for the time being though:

Few things done on this. First up was a diesel leak, which seems to have been solved by new leak offs. Also changed the thermostat, although it had just been done... But it was apparently a cheap shit one.

Then I needed to do something with the expansion bottle, as the cable ties weren't really cutting it. It has a phase 2 rad so there was nowhere to mount the bracket, so with a lot of adjustment with a Dremel:

(Plus a lot more after this and some holes drilled)

More secure at least. Now just need to stop my airbox from being cable tied in...

Speaking of air, spot the difference:

Not just the disgusting-ness of the old one, then new one is completely wrong... So I now have the correct one to be fitted tomorrow.

So why you using a standard air box then mate..?

That standard induction/inlet pipe really needs to go! Sad

Because it's just a cheap runaround... I don't really care about power. As long as the air filter works, it's good enough for me. I don't see the point in a cone filter on a diesel, although I have plenty sitting around if I change my mind.

So as is quite obvious by now, I've painted the wheels. So here's my £18 refurb.

So first of all was to key up the paint. Luckily they're in pretty good condition paint wise, being fairly new. Then I had to knock the plastic "bolts" out with a punch, as it was necessary to mask:

For masking up, I highly recommend fine edge tape. Not only does it give a nice line, as it says, it's very pliable, allowing to follow the curve of the wheel with ease:

Brilliant stuff.

So then, primer (after a sand):

Puuurple:

This one shows the metallic pretty well:

My car was looking pretty strange half way through lol :

Then set about the very fun (not) job of sanding down the "bolts" to spray them up:

Did the centre caps the same, a) because I didn't like them and b) because I didn't have enough purple left:

Made a "fake bolt re-fitterer" to try and not damage them when tapping them back home:

The result:

The finish is better than the factory one, so can't be too bad. I've already decided I don't like the centre caps, so working on something for that.

Apologies for the filthy car, I will try and get some clean ones soon.

I love it but I can't work out if the tyre profile is too big, the car isn't low enough.. Or a combination of both?!

Jealous though. My dad had a brand new white 3dr dturbo in 1996 & I've always wanted one.

Well the tyres aren't getting changed, as I said before, they're basically new and 195/50s are ideal for me. It's probably not low "enough" for most, and it's certainly higher than my cars are usually. But, it's ridiculously comfy how it is and I don't think it looks bad, so it'll do.
