Should be ok, I've been running at GT20 at 25psi on an engine thats pressurising a little Wink You'll enjoy the feeling of not knowing when or where it will decide to give up its internals.

Jesus dropped to the second page again, I should try harder.

OWAIT, i haz update

Thanks to Toby and my uncanny ability to spend money whenever possible, I am now the proud owner of an interestingly shaped Garrett GT2056S removed from a Nissan Navarra 2.4TD. This is going to be interesting..

Mr Postman arrived today with a package containing a serious health and safety warning. "CAUTION: this package contains epic amounts of boost pressure." Now Toby really is a bit of a fud but he's funny, in the way that you laugh at your girlfriend's downs syndrome little brother's jokes. The polite "isn't that cute?" laugh.

Anyway, good news, turns out I don't need an adapter plate. In true me style I set about with the drill and tap set in a "shoot first, ask questions later" technique that has served me well so far.

Progress y0. This was about 10 mins after it arrived.

Drilled and tapped, and EGT probe fitted.

Next up, a little delivery from Jenks today. Custom oil line with M10x1.0 banjo (different from the TD04 line) sorted out at no extra cost, so £22.50 delivered by Royal Fail 1st class signed for. Top bloke, top service.

This was promptly fitted, turbo clocked, and bolted up to the newly tapped mani. Very very painless install, almost there. Just need an exhaust elbow and flexi section and job done!

Need to fine tune the compressor angle, which is no problem as the turbo's so new the bolts loosen up SO easily. worlds apart from 10 year old TD04's or even older T2's.

Also need to convert the actuator as it looks like it's a vacuum one on the Navarra, sprung the wrong way. Going to attack the one i've got, if it doesn't work i'll bolt on the T2 actuator. Which would be a shame as this one's shiny lol

All being well I can get an elbow made up tomorrow at a local fab place for cheapness and it'll be ready to go. Going to run conservatively for now, think 24psi should suffice while being nice and efficient. Boost i'm going to control with an MBC and keep the actuator as I don't want spikes or anything that could cause the engine to throw its toys out of the pram.

Won't be long now...

id love to have this turbo on myself did briefly look at it when searching around but the compressor housing seems an arse for my oem pipe work so never bothered! will be an interesting setup once done

Yeah i'm yet to check for clearance but it MIGHT squeeze in. The IC pipes I have at the mo are a 90deg from the T2 outlet towards the bulkhead, then another 90deg to take the pipe along the bulkhead towards the gearbox.

IF this squeezes past the inlet mani and up the bulkhead it'll be fine and I can just remove one of the 90deg hoses. But that's a BIG if.

Very good progress as always, will be keeping an eye out!

Hooray, slowly gathering everything I need. From the looks of things I just need some welding done and we're ready to go!

Also received my 23.5mm torsion bars in the post today, and Xav has fixed my dodgy tyre, so this weekend should see a bit of light hooning on the cards.

Get in.

Hooray things happening!

Spent this morning fannying about so didn't make the start on things i'd planned but still managed to get the torsion bars on. Had a bit of an "oh f*ck" moment as the bars were sitting about 5mm proud and the offset washer wouldn't fit, but a bit of persuasion with my favourite blunt instrument soon got them in.

I also happened to find some random bits and pieces lying around to make my, erm, smoke chute. sideways and upwards ftw! Going to get a cheap ass exhaust tip from the poundshop down the road too. Coaled to f*ck? No ploblem. Fit a new tip! lmao

Sorry about the crappy picture quality, didn't have my camera so Instagram'd it up lol

20mm GTI6 torsion bars vs. Performance Torsion 23.5mm bars..

And the bodgetastical exhaust. Can't tell the angle from this but it's 75deg sideways and about 30deg up, will holesaw the bumper tomorrow, extend the pipe a bit and fit a chrome tip. Coaled faces ftw. Kept the "midbox" though to keep it legal. It's got baffles in it, honest!

Got my holesaw out for the tubby adapter plate too, nice 2.5" hole in it for major flow (as opposed to the T2 elbow which apparently drops to 1.75" in places)

I then found a fence fabricator up the road from me who was happy on a quiet Saturday morning to fire the elbow on for me for a tenner and a bit of banter. He's confused by the fact I have a turbo from a Movano van, that's massive, and i'm fitting it to a 306 diesel and aiming for it to be quicker than my GTI was. Two words Mr Welder: disposable engines.

A bit of blue flickering light:

And a bit of turbo porn:

That is all for today, m0ar tomorrow. Including the first fit of the turbo and removing the exhaust to cut the downpipe and line it up properly. This is gonna be so freakin' awesome...

+1

Would be good to see how it goes with a GT20, bet it spools up very fast and flows pretty good.

Yeah tbh I have no idea on how A/R works or anything, Darren said it would be an ideal tubby so I bought it haha. For all I know it could lag until 5krpm lmao

Just been spying compressor maps and trying to get my head around them. Make for interesting reading compared to a T2 at the same pressure ratio. T2's seem to drop out of peak efficiency just after a P/R of 1.8 (12psi, stock for a DT-ish), at 72%. By the time you hit a P/R of 2.5 (22psi) it's at peak flow but only 60% efficiency. Makes you wonder why people run T2's up at 30psi then if efficiency falls off dramatically after that!

Compared to the GT2056, a P/R of 1.8 would yield efficiency of up to 78%, already higher than the T2 but flow equates to roughly 130bhp at that. It could theoretically run at 42psi and still be 75% efficient! And that could be pointing towards 185bhp while stll being more efficient than the T2's stock efficiency...

That's what a bit of light reading does for you lol

Right, shite weekend. Started with taking 2 hours to remove the rear wheel nuts yesterday, god knows how but they'd seized up. Well, maybe not seized, but the stupid shitey key you get with the nuts is about 0.5mm off and the nuts all rounded! I have spares thankfully but had to smash a larger allen key in to get them off. Not a good start.

So the 23.5mm tb's are still on but yet to set ride height, cosmetics don't bother me right now as i'm trying to get this bastarding turbo to fit. Cue the angle grinder today...

That should be enough clearance for the housing. It's f*cking huge compared to the T2! Forgot to get comparison pics but i'll get some tomorrow. Still having issues with clearance for the coldside outlet though. It points right at the brake servo, I thought for a minute about bashing it with a hammer but logic (and Niall) got the better of the situation. I think it's more likely i'm going to cut and shut the outlet to point towards the drivers side, downside to that is I need to re-route my FMIC pipework. It never rains...

So for yet another day this is how the car's left:

No wheels, up on stands, engine in bits.. At least one thing got finished today ninja (PS yes I know the brake pad's upside down.. lost the pad fitting L-piece)

Nice wheels copyca....

OWAIT.

TBH it was a total piece of piss. spare bit of pipe, couple of clamps, job done. Might go buy a shiny tip from the pound shop haha
[Image: signature_zps1a02ba79.jpg]
Thanks given by:
cheesy as it sounds the bay do some good cheapo tips.

mine was a pain. i had to cut off the back box. cut 8" of pipe out and weld the back box back on (becausecherrybomb) then weld a 90 on pointing up, then a 45 to get it out stright. then the OE cherry bomb tip. then full air tight weld the lot and high temp paint. but......... and theres always a but. i had to do it all on the car because i couldnt be assed to take the exhaust off the turbo due to it being a 1 piece pipe from turbo to tip.

yours looks like was a piece of piss

and my xxr's will be coming along at some point next year. but you will prob have changed yours again by then Tongue

Buy mine then lol

I expect all the import fees and postage from the states to be covered though. No chance i'm letting these go cheap, and multi fit means they'll probably stay with me for a LONG time. First "proper" set of wheels i've ever been precious about. Even the Speedlines on the GTI were just, well.. Speedlines.

Win pipe was a piece of piss indeed. 63mm hole saw, spare 75degree pipe, spare straight pipe, spare smaller diameter pipe and some clamps. Helps the fact that the exhaust was just a bit of scaffolding tube, the back box was just sleeve fitted to it anyway. And I have my "midbox" to keep it legal.

I want the 527's though Big Grin i think thats what they are anyway. the 1st ons you posted but in shadow chrome . i want chrome chrome but they dont do them . dammmm its so hard to be a chav these dayz! lol

my exhaust is a funny one i dont know where it came from and cant find another. its a one piece from the turbo, NO cat. but an OE mind box (now empty) and it had a joint on the end for a back box (now gone and welded direct) but it has been bought from some where theres no cuts and joins in it (apart from back box) and is OE spec mild steele and box. i got off a dt i broke for parts.

i take it your is just somthing youv lashed together when you built it? got a length of stainless 3m and get it bent to the shape of you current exhaust. then you have a cheap stainless one piece exhaust. think ryan @306 was quoted £40 for a 3m length. i think this will be the next step with my DT exhaust

also looks like you need to buy a battery tray Tongue

ppppfffff cherry bomb back box is all you need. sounds schweeeeet
