Londondan's HDi Cabby Project
#1
Well as posted in the couch last week I bought myself a 51 plate cabby for a total of £200

Couch thread: http://306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=31446

It was bought as a spares/repair as there were lots of little jobs to do plus the lack of mot, this all suited me perfectly! Tongue

Current spec is a 1.8 16V SE with non working roof, broken remote aerial, central locking issues, flat tyre but bodywork overall very good! It has been stood since 2013 so has moss growing from parts of the bumper and a greenish tinge to the roof but nothing that a clean didnt sort out when I got it home Smile

Pics from the journey home

After a quick wash

Next I decided to tackle the roof, firstly I wanted to be able to just manually open it as there was no power going to the pump at all (and there was apparently a leak from one of the main roof rams) but the manual locking mechanism just spun so this all got stripped apart.

In these pics you can see the problem part. The 1st pic has the nut on, this goes through the rear bulkhead and into the boot and is turned with the wheel brace to manually latch the roof cover. Problem is that people over-tighten these and brake them. The secon pic shows the same part from the other side where it has just distorted the metal. My repair was to drill a 5mm hole straight through and put a pin through the lot! Sorted!

Next I changed the two roof hoses on the side that was leaking, these were both clearly damaged, but i still couldnt test it as the roof has no power going to the pump, one more return trip to the scrappy and a replacement roof ecu was sourced.

Roof now working!!! I will be doing the mod to allow the roof to operate with the engine running but this will do nicely for now! Big Grin

Next fix is the remote aerial. The problem with this is that the aftermarket thing which had been fitted was just stuck mid travel and was constantly on and getting hot This had wiped the battery by the next da. So when i got the roof ecu I also got a new aerial too. This now works nicely!!!

Old one, any ideal what this is off??

As I mentioned in the couch, this car will be going Hdi so first the 1.8 has to go! Began stripping this yesterday with the intention of having the engine on a pallet this weekend ready for sale. Surprisingly the aircon even had gas in it so suppose it might well have been the only 306 in existence with working a/c (until I took it apart!). The car will be getting painted but want to get all of the mechanical jobs done first then focus on bodywork later, more I think of it the ore I'm swinging for bianca........

Also any ideas what this is?? Looks like an IR receiver but nothing under the cover?

Still to do for now: Sort central locking, bouncing unlocked so could be door solenoid or door loom, not investigated really yet but also both key fobs don't work which seems unlikely that they are both broken? Can these be re-synced? I tried the ignition on and holding buttons but no joy.

Thanks for reading Smile

Also if anyone needs any of the petrol related bits then drop me a pm. I will also be needing a donor hdi soon too, VERY cheap so if anyone can help out then let me know Wink

Just had a look at your mate, fair doos for what your planning with it though chap!!!
Not doing it to make money, it's purely the love for the 306 and the need for a nice satisfying project.

When my car was laid up for a while it wouldn't unlock on the remote, but it sorted itself out. All i did was start the engine, stopped it, pulled the key and shut the door, then pressed the key repeatedly until it locked. Very scientific lol. Expecting great things of this project!

I have the same issue with the manual locking bits! Which part do you have to drill through to put a pin in to fix it? I've got mine taken apart but can't work out where to drill!

with the locking plate, the pin you put the wrench on, drill and pin the cam to that pin, this is where is it spinning, (thats what i had to do on mine)

as for the IR reciever, thats what should be there, and is obviously missing. hence why your remote does not work....

other than that she looks pretty tidy.

my roof is pretty knackered atm, so far i need, - all new hoses, new ram,.......... this is just the start of what i have seen mechanically wrong with it. lol.

I do like the interiour, mine is beige leather, and looks quite executive. :p

Well...............

After nearly 12 months of this beast being covered up and going mouldy it is about time I do something about it!

So! The last couple of weeks has seen a lot happen on the cabby project! I'll let the pics show the progress Wink

Pulling the XU7 out

Cleaning and clearing the engine bay

More coming!!!

Next carrying on with the engine bay, ground all the rust back to bare metal. Primed then painted white....

Then pulled all the interior and stored it in the garage for now

Next got my hands on the donor car... Stage 2 Hdi D turbo Perfect being a 2001 model to transfer the tax classification from Wink

Plan was to use the engine/box/loom/ecu/suspension/etc

Ended up with this unexpected beauty coming of the d turbo as well!

And that all brings us to this weekend which has consisted of sanding and prep!

Prize of nothing to the person who can guess what the spoiler is from lol

Trial fitting the side skirts

Got this repair to do next
