How to remove rounded bleed nipples (courtesy of Tom306)?
#1
Basically cracked on and managed to change all the calipers, discs and pads over, went to bleed the system and realized the bleed nipples have been rounded off.

I've tried 6mm spanner that just spins and doesn't even grip. I've also tried mole grips which would also spin.

Any advice on this? Don't really want to have to take them all of again, is there any tool I could go buy tomorrow that would help?

I was thinking either an even bigger pair of mole grips or possibly a 4mm / 5mm deep socket that I try and hammer over it and then use to remove.

Obviously I've soaked them in WD40.

Suggestions please!!

Tried vise grips but only a cheap pair.

How can I apply heat to that area with them on the car?

Buy a heat gun? Tongue

Yeah, you'll need a decent pair of grips, and a blowtorch. Maybe remove the flexi first though.

Get a good pair of vise grips, not cheap ones with soft jaws, we use irwin vise grips and there about the best imo.

If I'm going that route I might as well take them off and put the nipple in a clamp on my work bench, grip them as tight as possible and try giving them a turn?

Don't like the sound of a blow torch! Blush Wheres a place to buy them and some gas?

I used a 6 sided socket on the ones on my 266's along with plenty of penetration fluid and a wire brush. I need to buy new ones now but the important thing is they came out and didn't break off in there.

Went and bought those £14 Irwin Mole grips from screw fix, did the job a treat! Just goes to show what a quality tool is capable of!

The 266 brakes are vented and a lot chunkier, combined with dot 5.1 it's a load better!

Job done. Wink

Oi, its not my fault bleed nipples are shit....

Were they rounded before you touched them, honestly? I hadn't touched them at all on my HDi after the mess I made of SRowells nipples.

Honestly they were rounded. I didn't even check/touch them prior to fitting.

Then once it came to bleeding both the buggers were already extremely round! >_<

All sorted now anyway.. Smile

Oh, I can only apologise in that case then. Genuinely didn't know about it.

I guess its something else to add to the list if things the HDi previous owners broke then. Rolleyes

Glad you've sorted it though. Smile
