D-Turbo Rallycross/Track Car Project
#1
So for a while me and my mate wanted to have a project track car we wanted something different to what everyone else uses we knew we wanted diesel I've had my d-turbo for 4 years now so I know them quite well so we bought a green d-turbo for £150

This is when we got it, it had done 189,000 so only just run in Wink. It drove really well very smooth and wouldnt think it had done anywhere near that milage drove better than mine.

Currently on a lucas setup which will be changed also running a k14 so we are going to abuse it with the current setup then go for big power Wink.

So we starting to strip it ready to save weight then we found that it starting weight saving it self

Was quite bad but nothing that couldnt be sorted. The only damage to the car was a dent in the wing i bashed it out it didnt have to perfect as it was going to be used on track so is going to take a few knocks.

With all the interior out, next the windows where taken out as we are going to be making perspex windows for the rear windows and front 2
The back window was such a pain we had to put the window through then put off all the seal with a knife.

Next we had to get it ready for painting so a bit of sanding down nothing amazing and then within a few hours it was ready to paint.

We decided to smooth the boot as it was easier it didnt come out too bad the indicators where smoothed off the wings aswell.

So we started painting this is how it came out.

So thats how we left it last night just leaving a few days to dry before we flat it down and mop it up, then we can start on the fun parts of the car.
Bye Bye D-Turbo

Good project this will be an interesting one. Can I ask what kind of standard equipment you used to paint the car? And are you experienced in painting or was it just a one off? Interested in painting mine but from what I've seen before it seems quite tricky with paints reacting and what not.

Also if its rallye cross I'm guessing your going for a standard turbo / pump as you'll only be skidding / spinning everywhere anyway? Tongue

We just used a compressor and spray gun with 2 pack paint we only used 2 litres. We prepped the car with a 320 grit on a sander and a scotch pad we did get lots of dust but the car is going to be dirty most of the time anyway so didnt really matter. The paint didnt react at all its so much easier than a rattle can aswell.

Well we are going to be using it on track days aswell so we need decent power so that will come in time.

There is nothing of the interior left we took out everything its surprising how heavy some of the interior items are.

Is there no need for primer or laquor with 2 pack paint then?
