When I had one I had a bracket between the top bolt of the alternator and the alternator itself so undid that, pressed the alternator against the block, fitted then belt and then used a big pry bar to pull it out and tension it before fitting the bracket.

The bracket itself was triangular with a hole at each corner and all the sides were different lengths, I have no idea what it came off but it was perfect to give me a choice of tensioning options.
Manuall tensioning system would be ideal rather then keep chewing these belts. I swear someone was running a similar setup with a clitched alternator pully. Im not sure if that would help tho

how are you going through so many belts?

I've not needed to change the one on my ZX since I bought it 8 years ago, my bmw has the same one it had when I bought that 40 k miles ago.

As above, if you're on a solid ally pulley i can pretty much guarantee it's that causing the issue.

There's a good reason they use a heavy, damped pulley as standard, these aren't the smoothest of engines when it comes to torque pulses. Wink

So she did me proud at expo. Was very shocked at the amount of attention she drew to herself. Managed to get up with minor hicups. Had moved the fuel cut switch the day before to clean the bay and didnt realise i had tripped it so panic set in at 3am when the slut wouldnt start [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Was also greated by chip from pfc mag just as i was getting set to leave. Asked to have some photos taken of her for a feature and of course i couldnt say no!

So thats another year of expo done..
Starting to feel like i need a daily so will be looking for a nice 406 hdi to run as a family car so i can take this of the road. This will also mean no shows next year but think its time to sort her out properly and get myself set.
Few things i wanna do if i can take her off the road like gearbox mounting the turbo to do away with that restrictive intake and exhaust mani, water/meth injection and get her mapped to its full potential. Really wanting a cage too and leaning towards stripping her right out for road legal track use if the seata are unable to be kept in the back for the look (look of a semi standard car not to be used). Been told i should be able to fit a 3door cage in her no probs as floor pans the same but obv door shuts are different so the cage would bolt down beyond the b pillar.
Still all speculation and i cant do nout till i get xmas out the way and buy a new car....

you should be able to fit the cage but the b pillars will be in the wrong place. Thats why i didnt fit one to my 5 door.

As i thought. Would happily lose the rear seats but may have another issue. Looking at the omp cages i believe they bolt in ontop of the wheel arch which im not 100% sure the inner skin is the same for

Just noticed another major floor. Didnt realise the main hoop on an omp bolts to the b pillar unless the mounts im spying are for somthing else

safety devices is a perfect fit....

with the omp you will have to lose the door cards. with another type of cage you have to cut the dash. with the safety devices one you keep verything but cant open the lower glove box.

Well that sounds like a perfect compromise. How does it fit in the back?

Hmmm might be similar. So bloody hard to tell by pictures. If not may search for a 2nd hand cage to chop about. Least i could have the hoop set right then.

Cant say its somthing ive seen done much. Caged 5 doors are rare as it is but estates ive not seen at all... step into the unknown [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Meant 306 wise but do love that volvo! Surprised no ones told me to get a 3 door [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND COLD SWEAT] was looking on eeyore's past thread about cages in a 5 door and the only information i could find was... "buy a 3 door"

Spose depends whats about at the time. If i can score a 2nd hand cage for the right price could be cheaper to mod that then make one from scratch. Am i correct in thinking when a cage is cut you need to sleeve the inside to retain strentgh when re welded?

just a wee thought.
where you have your air intake in the bumper, how about bending up a thick wire coat-hanger to match the shape moulded into the fog-lamp blank?
It goes, it stops (as reqd). Makeup

ok. look at the front view of your car.
on the right is a blank with a 'loop' moulded in it to match the grille.
so bend a c/h to match the shape and fit across the l/h hole to give a matched look
