306 engine is best bet.

or swap all the 306 specific bits onto the 8v hdi.

if its 16v then look up darren lobbs thread.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

Hard to find a low milage 306 engine though. Unless you know of one

couldn't care less about mileage, its all about condition, and also what someone considers low mileage is probably nothing to a well serviced engine anyway.

Again more likly to find a well looked after 307 engine really. Most 306s nowadays arent really the best looked after

Wouldn't worry what the engine is from tbh, Just go through it, id rather buy a 250k motor and go right through it than some random "low milage 307" engine.....

I understand what youre saying i usually do this myself however budget is an issue here as its just my daily and id quite like a decent fuel pump annciliries with it etc. Any other suggestions would be appriciated though

The current motor snapped a belt on 285,000 miles and most of the engine annciliers look like absolute crap and it had a fair few issues nearing the end hence the new lump and not banging a set of rockers in it and carrying on.

No problem, iirc you'll need to swap the exhaust mani and lower engine mount plus a couple of other brackets.
