Good news regarding the rust situation as all that is easy to take car of.

Sure Adam had me rip the aircon out as it was f*cked many moon ago.

What engine is going back in?

scroll back about two pages for the engine
i refreshed a std engine rings bearings seals the works and have fitted that with lightened flywheel and pulley

the air con was still in this car when i bought it now there is none left in the engine bay as ive removed all the pipework and compressor

Iv'e worked out the issue with connecting to the plastic hard-lines! yeh!!

plastic hard-line > 6mm Pipe inserts > 8mm compression hard line to AN6 adapter

the pipe inserts give the plastic tube rigidity so the compression olives don't squash the plastic pipe

my arm was forced i had to commit myself as a found another leak, where the white tube enters the plastic hardline

anyway all went well replacing the fuel rail and fitting the adaptors to the plastic hardlines
the olives were a little tight on the pipe but i sorted that, all on tested been for a run and no leaks

road trip to lyme regis earlier for some work to be done via our resident beam builder Stef

I've had 21mm bars fitted and the rear ride height adjusted so its time to learn the car again
was a totaly different car to drive home a lot more forgiving in the corners

Nice to see you today Paul,

Beam came apart easier than i was expecting considering it was built around 3 years ago. Arb flags moved freely too which was even better they can normally be nice a crusty.

I mocked up the dummy shock prior to removing the old tb's for an idea on height, We agreed to put the new bars back in at the same height measurement taking into consideration of the bigger bars and seemed to come off well. Gave Paul complementary new shock bolts and new tb bolts as the previous builder had made a balls up of it.

Much better ride hight! Always felt it was too low at the back end.

we didnt actualy change the ride height, the 21mm bars being stiffer has made it sit higher which has made a big bifference in the handling,
the car seems more settled and less skittish in the corners, you can adjust your power in the corner now without it twitching its ass like a rabbits nose

I washed the car yesterday she was looking so sweet i had to take her out for a drive today!
now she is back to how she was.....Dirty!

   

the 21mm rear bars and the ride height of the rear of the cars has transformed the handling
its so much better.
but.......
its changed the character of the car some of the IM GOING TO KILL YOU has gone

meaning i can drive it faster as its more controllable/predictable ,
I'm not sure if this is a good thing
maybe i should hand my license over before its shot with points

cant wait now for the track day I have booked for the 20th Feb

Nut and bolt check
check brakes/fluids
change oil as its done nearly 3K since the rebuild
check track tyres
build up a fluid/spares pack to take

finished off my fuel pipes today by making two stand off clamps that replace the bolts on the top engine mount yoke,
these will do away with the cable ties and hold the pipes rigid car side
makes a neater job!

so the shopping list for you goes like

2 X AN6 weld on steel fitting (£5.98 for 2)
4 X AN6 BLACK 45 Degree Swivel TEFLON PTFE Fuel Oil Braided Hose Fitting (£11.95 for 1)
2 mtr AN6 5/16" 8MM Stainless Steel Braided TEFLON PTFE Fuel Hose (£9.95 per Mtr)
2 X 6mm Pipe inserts (£4.77 for 10)
2 X 8mm compression hard line to AN6 adapter (£10.60 for 2)
2 X AN6 13.4MM Braided Hose Separator Clamp (£9.90 for 8)

things to watch though
the compression olives are tight to get over the plastic hard line,
the 6mm inserts will need the front leading edge filed so they enter the plastic pipe without digging in ,they are tight entering the olive once inside the pipe,


the hose clamp stand offs i made from the pipe clamp and a inlet manifold stud

i tapped the bottom part of the clamp to 8mm so the stud screwed into the lower of the hose clamp
this was locked with a 8mm nut

the top part of the clamp secures via a m4 socket bolt so i drilled and tapped into the top of the manifold stud 4mm tread

the whole thing just replaces the existing yoke bolt and locks with a M8 nut
i also cut a thin strip of rubber to grip the pipe in the clamp so it wont wear the steal braid

I just try not to use chain tyre shops at all. We can use either Kwikfit or ATS with the work cars and they are both just utterly useless. Im sure they purposely employ the brain dead!

been to pick up some parts that were local and cheap
bonnet,grill,hocky sticks,windscreen scuttle

all in the correct colour but dirty eeeeeW

Oh! and a bonnet does fit in a 306

has been a good dry day today so have set about checking the car over before my trackday on saturday

   

Ive removed the laguna splitter and fitted a Std GTi6 version
fitted a new fuel filter as i haven't changed it since buying the car.....Oops
also freed up the rear brake bias valve on the beam as that was siezed again
oh when it packs up altogether i found a new one

   


just waiting for a set of Mintex Racing M1155 front pads to turn up then ill fit them before saturday

I'm taking a set of Rainsport3 tyres and ither my A048's to kill off or a set of new scrubbed R888's
need to keep an eye on the weather though
