How has the scene changed in the last couple of years?
I remember when I first had my 306, on theywhoshallnotbenamed a stage 1 tune and fmic was about as far as tuning went
Then everyone went mad blowing rods out there blocks
Are some of the main members still playing with xuds?
Con67, darrenjlobb, ruan etc

And amongst other projects, the 306 will be making a return to the project section soon
In the meantime, I have a Eaton blown nad 305 that I should really post a project for! More of a "back to my roots" project!

It's changed loads, even in the 6 years I've been around. I caught the tale end of the guys from 2008 when S/Cing the 6 was new through into Darren's first work. Now what you guys get up to with the diesels is pretty impressive, I remember the first gov mod!
All this and I'm only 23...

Were cheap enough to run when I had mine and petrol prices were stupidly low... Coming back up again now though I admit lol. Insurance wasn't bad either now we're getting old.
I was just thinking about this the other day though, back then there were a lot of us around a similar age with 1.4s...barely ever see a 1.4 or 18 year old joining up now...

Good point. You and I both had 1.4s, Sam I think as well? I think the 306 has gone beyond the point that a 1.4 was considered acceptable for an 18 year old, they're worth even less now. I imagine they get bought mainly as cheap run arounds

I never entertained the idea of a 1.4 306 when i was young. Just spent the three grand on insurance for a 205 CTI. Lol. I was dumb. All my 306s have been dervs. Wouldnt have it any other way.
Also xud cambelt on my own car was one of my collage practicals to be a mechanic.

Hehe, nothing wrong with friendly competition / banter.. We have all been there
I miss being as involved as I use to be with my own projects, but spend so much time on other projects for other people I keep missing the time, but the DervBus has been in / out of the 'shop a few times in the last few weeks, so give it time. A big cloud of smoke will return soon

There were quite a few of us, you, I, Rowell, Wingnuts, Jamma, Jimmy, Gazzza, TomoP, Basher, -chapperz-, 4way, etc all had 1.4s, plus quite a few more that I've forgotten as well lol.
Then there was a few round our age with HDi's as well...wonder what happened to MadD, Burrell, Swanny, Luke, etc...
Odd how some people stuck around and other didn't, always interesting to see what people moved on to imo.

Lol, my neighbour had a ph2 diablo XUD when I was learning to drive, I learnt in a 1.4 eco HDi 206... Watching him try to start that bugger in the morning and knowing how unbelievably slow the 1.4 hdi was I definitely wanted a petrol!! 1.4 petrol 306 actually felt quick after the 1.4 HDi.
I'd never have moved onto diesel if it wasn't for the 306 forums though...these guys pushed me to buy my first diesel...Golf...

I think most of us grew up and started looking for power instead of fitting big exhaust and body kits. The diesel side of things people have started hitting bigger numbers recently with both xud and hdi. GTI6s are still pretty much SC and bodied but we are seeing more on standalone management and with custom super charger setups not just the lynx kits. More people are on track these days.

The scene has changed massively, there's far more dickheads than ever and not the good sort like Niall. They are all wankers into vaping and tight t shirts and financed cars. There's only little pockets of cool people who build stuff and don't just buy some soul less nearly new anonymous box. There is still a pocket of cool people here doing awesome things.
I had been fettling a bigger turbo onto my truck and now been persuaded to abandon that one and fit a f*ck off VNT.
I'll get lynched if own any more 306s

get a half decent radiator and that's already more reliable bash mate lol.
In truth tho, the hdi is now where the xud was a few years ago.. it's in everything now good solid engine with diet cheap spares , more solid even in standard form than the XUD. More potential with the direct digital injection ad well in terms of finesse when tuning.
Lots of silly modifications happening here

yeah its all changed now, I have been with .net for 10 years now, and I remember when the stage one was the thing to do, and the HDI was still young and over 2k!
Now you have big builds and power, I wonder what will happen in another 5 years, as most of these cars are now all pushing close to 20 years old. Will people still push for power? or will people restore? who knows.

The scene for me always has been just having good mates an enjoying the cars my self. I don't like the abuse that gets thrown about and i don't like the anti social behaviour.
Now unfortunately the scene seems to have gone to the latter. Everyone slags off everyone elses cars, people wave their dicks about showing off their car and people look down on you just because daddy hasn't bought you a 10 plate VXR or you haven't financed your self up to the eyeballs on a wanky vauxhall.
I blame Facebook for this. Every man and his dog has a Facebook car group which are all exactly the same and are purely used for selling a shitty backbox on 112 different (same) groups. All i see is one person who has screenshotted their original ad and copied it to all these groups. Its just boring.
