Ok guys,
Getting my head back in the game now. want my S16 done ready for some shows next year.
I cant be bothered with the original over complicated vac system, so i propose to fit an xu10j4rs motor into the S16 shell, what am i gonna need to alter or modify?
My guesswork so far comes to:
ph1 gti6 ecu & loom
gti6 rad and cooling pipes
gti6 cat pipe & exhaust
What else will i need?
thanks in advance

exhaust is the same, just the downpipe.
all coolant pipes are different, vacuum pipe is different to servo, bulkhead heatshield will need a few rivnuts fitting.
I cant see how you describe a single vacuum solenoid and two actuators as "over complicated" though !

Should be fairly straight forward tbh. Think you've got it covered now just crack on and get it done.

Be a shame to change it for a gti6 engine. S16s are getting very rare and would be nice to keep it original.
As welshpug said the AVAC system isn't that bad i think the main issue is getting bits for it. The original diaphragms have done the work now and most are broke and new 1s are very hard to get hold of as i found out when i had mine

The AVAC system is very simple when you break it down and I had to replace the solenoid and didn't have any issues with it for the 4 years I had it. Would be a shame to swap out the s16

Fairly easy to replace the actuators with other items (non standard) to avoid the lack of parts issue..
As said would be a bit of a shame, personally think these S16's have alot more character than the GTI6's do...that said, a '6 box makes all the difference on a S16 motor imo...

indeed, there is a 12v (iirc) switching signal so a direct acting solenoid would suffice.

Meh, each to their own, its a shitty engine really and develops a pretty piss poor amount of power with a stupid inlet system thats completely unnecessary and compared to the equivalent renault setup on a similar engine of the time (F7P/R Mk1 Clio 16v / Williams motor) which simply used a two stage & twin butterfly throttle body using a simple mechanical linkage.
Oh yeah i forgot, this is 306OC and despite asking a reasonable question i cant receive an informative answer, gotta receive everyones pointless opinion too

Well get on with it and don't ask stupid questions I'm sure you can manage to do an engine swap without our help

Isn't me doing it mate haven't got the time so paying a friend. so any bits like coolant pipes etc i need to order for him to change the system over makes his life easier.
My main concern was engine wiring looms and if it will just plug and play into the S16 interior loom.

Debateable book figures and the clio engine has plenty more easily extractable power. As much as i love my pugs, you cannot beat a mk1 clio standard for standard with anything else available at the time.

Ah well best keep my options to myself then. Only chucking my thoughts out there!
Sound like you want to be fitting a Renault engine instead of a gti6 lump by the sounds of it though

Cant be bothered with an over complicated vac inlet system, of which theres plenty of info out there on and is actually pretty basic,
but wants to do and engine swap/conversion of which he doesnt know how to do..... sounds legit
Is there anything wrong with the s16 motor or not?

"A pretty piss poor amount of power"
12hp and 8 lb.ft difference to a J4RS... Also 10hp and 9lb.ft more than the 145hp F7R Williams engine...
Yet you whinge on about the J4RS motor like it's the best thing since sliced bread...
Baffling - especially on a car that's actually quite rare.

Jesus f*cking christ.
By the looks of my first post it would appear i actually do know how to do it?
Also the F7R is 150bhp and im yet to see one make less than standard power.
Where is the issue in fitting an updated engine? the S16 engine IS shit and outdated. got the info i need about water pipes and a vac pipe, sure its nothing i wouldn't of worked out for myself though This might aswell be locked now.

Easy to throw opinions on other peoples builds I guess.

S16's react well to tuning, you can fit bigger cams in due to the valve cut outs and clearance in the head.
However they are getting tired, most need a full rebuild and the lip at the top of the bores renders the block scrap.

When people ask a question, i usually try to answer it quite informatively.
When people try and willy wave / brag / big themselves up i usually make it my lifes goal to put them back in their place.
