Many thanks, might get me to Swindon to get this alternator off power and torque
I need to do a bit of work on this when I get back -alternator -top mount bearings -sort out rear beam -get 6 brakes off my mate -swap injectors to see if it cures the under bonnet sewing machine -rocker cover gasket -camshaft seal and crank shaft seal to see if it stops the oil leak

We had to move house again recently which gave my finances a reet twatting but getting settled now so can get it on the road. When we moved I had a quick drive and it felt quite vicious to be honest, loud and perky which is how it should be in my book

Probably a bearing has let go if its getting hot, if the Nyloc has melted it must have been well over 100 degC.

Aux belt still running smoothly? Mine needs a new belt but people say 1163mm is too short and doesn't last long, been all good?
04-10-2015, 07:20 AM
never seen an alternator get hot before, saying this if the bearing are buggerd it is a possibility.
On a break from 306oc for personal reasons. If anyone needs or wants me most of you have my number and or facebook messenger

Edit: I've got a 1173 belt fitted as that's all the motor factors has in stock. Runs fine. Just to make a point it was doing this with the oe belt setup before I removed the AC pump I'm a bit confused why it's gone, I've checked the earth's with a multi meter and they checked out fine. Did have a listen yesterday come to think about it and what I think was a dead injector might of been the alternator making that noise

Sure it was Poodle who said it was too short in another thread, now 1173 is supposedly the one to go for but just seeing how people rate the 1163, Cheers Paul.

When I had my hdi 1163 was too short and snapped
04-10-2015, 09:12 AM
Cheers Luke! 1173 it is then aha
What damage did it cause the car then out of interest?
04-10-2015, 12:07 PM
Right do apologise, read that wrong.
The motor factors only had a 1173 belt so I fitted that and yes it works fine

Beam rebuild time!
The one on there has a bit of play in one arm and quite a bit in the other. Got the beam off project lemon which has 21mm bars and started stripping it. Seized together proper! It doesn't look like it has any camber which is good. Took this out first, started to get worried! Undone all the nuts/bolts holding the bars in and tried to removed them using a puller.... No chance. Out come the hammer Finally after 20 minutes of whacking it freed off
11-10-2015, 02:07 PM
How many miles on that? Don't think I've seen any that bad before.

I'm not sure you can say you caught that just in time
12-10-2015, 05:39 AM
What I meant by that is the beam tube is save able.
I'm not sticking it back together as it was ffs
12-10-2015, 05:54 AM
I'm not sure that will be ok to reuse, might be worth getting it checked out because that is worse than any of the beams we've had apart and some of those weren't salvageable.
12-10-2015, 06:38 AM
Been doing beams for years and years mate
What looks like pitting in that pic is just shit stuck to it The outer race of the bearing was fully intact and the needles had not worn through
13-10-2015, 11:20 AM
As a heads up Paul, Citroen sell the original bearings still as a box set. As you know, there is debate on the outer bearings available for 205s being inferior (less needles). Competitive price too, but unfortunately CSHitroen Reading has moved to Basingstoke.
The original beam off my 306 was worse than that.....one arm was seized solid. Got the arm off with my 10t pullers, but left the shaft in the tube! I suspect it was because it was lowered at some point, without checking/replacing the seals.

Tried getting my coolant heater working earlier, luckily all the old plugs come out with minimal fuss! Straight swap using 1.9 dturbo glow plugs, did not need to modify the electrical connections despite what people say. Done! Haven't had chance to test it yet. Also cleaned up all the earth connections, some were quite bad
08-11-2015, 04:37 PM
Works nicely!
Weird having heat in the first 5 mins of turning it on
08-11-2015, 04:41 PM
what glow plugs did you fit?
