I've got a spare rear beam that I'm changing the discs and pads on before it goes back on the car.

I ordered new brembo discs and pads - cheapest ones off eBay

the pads arrived but 3 are the same and 1 is different which seems odd.

3 of the pads have nipples (not the best descriptive word) and the other one has a dimple        

having a look through this thread

it says that the pads with nipples go against the piston in the notches, however having a look at the pads that came off the beam it looks the opposite way round, the ones with the dimples went against the piston and the nipples went against the calliper.

Do I need 4 pads with nipples or

2 pads with dimples and 2 with nipples?

If the ones that came off had a dimple against the piston then they were fitted wrong

Am I being dumb... But I am 99.9999% sure you need the dimple on piston side to stop the piston winding itself back in?! It goes in one of the piston slots no!?

Thanks for the replies, ill just make sure the one with the dimple goes on the outside saves the hassle of sending them back

But yes I'm pretty sure the bump locks between the piston so looks like the older pads were fitted incorrectly

Afaik the old ones were fitted right...

Not sure what Hdi-Power is on about tbh

The bit that sticks out fits in the piston, the odd one that he has in his set must go on the outside, remember the dimple is the hole. so his old ones were fitted incorrectly.

This is what they mean by notches in the piston, the guide on .net also says the bump on the calliper is supposed to slot into here (sorry for the screenshot don't know how to edit pictures yet)

Has anyone got a picture of what this pin looks like on its own?

   

Only reason I'm asking is because I can't remember taking one out when i removed the pads but I kept everything I removed so if it had one fitted it'll be about somewhere, if not anyone know the part number?

Meh, it's just an R-clip, as long as there's a pin in there it'll stay in (I see loads with split pins in). Just make sure there is something in there, otherwise your pads will go walkies.

Yes I do have my dimples and nipples mixed up.


May need to re-evaluate my bedroom tactics.

Just tried putting the pads back on, but they don't fit? I've rewound the piston a lot and they still seem to be like 2/3mm too big to go back on. Any ideas?
unattatched the handbrake cable. This is whilst the rear beam is off the car.
