GTi-6 - ITBs & CAMMED Track Car.. LATEST VIDEO
Hi,

Question... have YOU actually personally tested injectors up to their limit welshpug? There seems to be a lot of bullshit spouted about these GTi6 injectors online.

I saw you wrote they'd do it on 3bar, and then modified your post. They absolutely won't do that. I hit the limit for 3bar at a little over 200hp, they got up to 95% duty which is clearly much higher than you want to be running anyway!! With more pressure, they will obviously do more, but more pressure is not ideal.

Yes, I'm sure they would do decent power - at a push, and running at higher pressure but given my injectors were knackered anyway and I needed a new set, it was the sensible option to run bigger ones. Less duty on the injector, less pressure on the injector, more control over the injector and less wear on the injector... Win win win!! Smile

More pressure isn't the be all and end all. There's a reason manufacturers don't run big fuel pressures!

JP

Anyway... off topic. For this sort of power level, no, bigger injectors aren't required at all... There are just benefits to running them (within reason) and futureproofing is always a good thing when upgrading! :-)

I spoke to Sandy about them, I recalled my friend was running 3 bar on them at 220 bhp, but I don't recall what sandy ran them at, however he is not a fan of running more pressure as they don't work efficiently at that.

the spray pattern non the gti6 injector is very hard to beat for their capacity, sandy has often wondered if the 265cc/min figure listed for them at 3 bar is actually around 85%, as that's where they are most efficient, they perform more like a 300cc injector.

I am running gti6 injectors in my throttle bodies.

Hi,

So got the Emerald ECU fitted, wrote a very simple base map for the car and took it over to Emerald headquarters for a full days lesson in how to map and tune using their ECU.

Great day had, I learnt a lot (Actually, by 3pm my brain was fried and not a lot else would go in) learnt a LOT specifically about spark timing and how lots of other things can actually change the best spark angle.

Did some more work with the throttle body trumpet lengths. No matter WHAT we did we ended up losing power, so I think I can safely say I have a totally optimised inlet length.

A cool feature about the Emerald ECU is that it let us split the spark timing and injector trim, out per bank of cylinders running different trumpet lengths. This means now I have totally optimised spark and fuelling for each different length trumpet.

All in all a great day, and has really progressed my knowledge of mapping...

Will do a full writeup when I've got my photos off my camera, and I'm not sat in a hotel room...

If one was paying, yes.... thankfully - Performance French Cars Mag. :-)

I would absolutely say though, if you aren't pushing for every last bhp, stock management is the way to go - save yourself £1000.

Oh, and I forgot to say... We found another few hp peak, around 10hp more from 5000 - 7000 and another 11lbft through the midrange.

Very quick little video just to show the real-time map switching.

That is just flipping between 2 maps with "normal" over-run, and an over-run with less fuel and some spark retard for pops and crackles.

I have been running this for a few weeks now, admittedly haven't done many miles, but have managed to go for a hoon up the snake pass and into the hills a few times. Loving it again.

Was a little scary when I was giving it the beans, it leaned right out to 22.8:1 (the leanest my gauge goes) and then died... but I found that a fuel hose had popped off the side of the fuel filter underneath... bloody quick fit connectors.

I still have designs on building a bigger capacity, high compression motor for it. But for the moment, it's brilliant - I love it and I've just booked a couple of "end of summer" track days! :-)

One thing I have noticed though.... I think my 200 cell sports cat is no more!!

Have you got a copy of the dyno printout from the Emerald mapping James?

I've had a few cars that I've done work on or friends cars mapped at Emerald so it'll be interesting to see how this compares given that it's on the same rollers and thus, broadly comparable (usual RR direct comparison issue aside!). In particular, one of those is a 2.1 GTi-6 on Catcam 109's that I mentioned a few pages, so would be interesting to see how yours compares across the rev range as the peak figures don't sound too different from memory.

What made you go down the Emerald route rather than DTA, Omex etc out of interest? Were they simply offering the better "deal" with it being through a magazine and all that? After all, it's hardly like Norfolk is local to you for mapping and DTA is a local firm for you.

I know that some mappers aren't too keen on Emerald but I've always found it quite easy to use and configure, and certainly never had any issues with the couple that I've owned (older M3DK and K3, rather than the current generation). Not mapped one from scratch, but have made a few looms, adapted base maps to get car drivable and sorted out cold start and idling issues for people so am pretty familiar with it.

Sounds good mate, the OEM filters are a right PITA. I'm glad the diesel has a proper inline one with jubilee clips.

OK. I'm sure this will upset the applecart, but I've been testing a couple of different microphone locations for the GoPro recently, and thought I'd stick this up here as it shows the sound of the 'bodies and my very quiet 85dB exhaust system!

No speed limits were broken during the filming.

good idea having a remote mic that

I bout myself a decent sound recorder with that exact purpose in mind - just never put it into practise

this just an external mic plugged into the gopro?

Cheers lads.

Power and torque, sorry, I missed your reply.

I went for the k6 for a couple of reasons, price: they worked with me pretty well for the project. Even if they hadn't, its a great price for what it is.

Full coil on plug support

Switchable maps

Ease of use.

I like the software actually. At first I thought it was a bit crap, because to tune it at home was pretty hard due to the way you have to nail a specific load and rpm site. But once you are on the dyno it is a joy to use!!

I will dig out the dyno plot and upload it.
