I phoned the bloke and asked if I could have a sit before buying and they were lush so offered him a bit less than the ebay price as he wouldn't have monstorous paypal fees and he said yes. I think the fact you thought they were OEM stuff out a different car says something for the quality. (22-03-2014, 08:36 PM)Grant Wrote: Those seats are lush man. Wasn't a seller called 2guysfromuk was it? Im looking at a set of seats at the moment in about the same place which look very similar but may be rip offs of a well known seat manufacturer

Nah thebodykitshop-uk or something.
They came in a thebodykitshop-uk box with their contact details on so I assume they are a reasonably large outfit, not just selling someone elses stock. They certainly had £££££ worth of stock all in the warehouse and ready to sell. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151243032414?_...EBIDX%3AIT As for fitting I did try but by the time I got to the fabricators to try and blag some sheet steel they had gone home for the weekend. I did look at a sheet of MDF and consider it just for the meet but I think i'll wait.

Next question, do ew think 10mm polycarbonate is strong enough for making subframes as its a few KGs lighter than a steel sheet. (PC is 4kg for 500x500 compared to steel at 6kg for 500x500)
22-03-2014, 11:01 PM
no it will flex too much. Mine are 4mm steel and still flex ever so slightly

Like the seats. But think about the stress they would be under in a crash... Not really worth it I don't think.

Mine are 4mm steel and still flex ever so slightlyDo you know or is that a guess? 6mm PC has very little flex especially over just 500mm width so 10mm would be good was my thought. Its impact resistant and doesnt crack and for the little flex it will have would hopefully help in a crash. Amazed your bending 4mm steel plate. The mounts I had in the black car in 3mm steel plate were solid (22-03-2014, 11:04 PM)Curt Wrote: Like the seats. But think about the stress they would be under in a crash... Not really worth it I don't think.Well thats part of what I'm thinking I dont want to make the frame too strong without a roll cage as the seats are designed to deform in a crash and roll you over to the center of the car if you have a side (lamp post) impact

Chris. You're not actually thinking of making your seat frames out of plastic are you?!

Those look awesome! Edit: ffs bloody phone not showing the last pae again.
You'd be better off mounting them on half box section tbh, much more rigid for the thickness.

Cool project 10mm poly carb sheet would be strong as owt but I'd still use steel.
What about Poly carb windows? 5mm should save alot of weight over glass.
23-03-2014, 10:32 PM
Poodle box section would be great but makes them 20mm higher and I want to sit as low as possible.
Uberderv yes but I like the luxury of Windows that open far too much

In which case, use flat bar like i have. Its solid enough but no way would plastic do the job. You would stress it far too much and eventually it would crack up.

So slot it for the cross-members. :p
24-03-2014, 08:39 AM
but if you slot it you loose the strength.
24-03-2014, 09:07 AM
Dont use plexi flexi whatever...steel may flex but it wont snap at least!
Wishes for more power...
24-03-2014, 08:06 PM
Some, but mostly in the sections where it's well supported anyway. A small lip, like 2mm small, on the slotted sections would help keep a lot of the rigidity and it'll still be way better than straight steel bar.

Well I've gone a few bits and bobs over the last few days and got a chance to drive her today in the sunshine and god shes transformed, still not up to full power but I'm totally back in love with the car. Was grinning from ear to ear.
Got myself a machine gauge, nice small 40mm, 30psi boost gauge thats actually accurate (unlike cheap ebay boost gauges) and only cost me about £3. Only downside is there's no back light. Also in piping it in got my LDA piped in too. [attachment=14797] [attachment=14798] [attachment=14799] Spaced my upper engine mount with some washers to drop the engine about 5mm and this has cured all my rubbing issues. Also chocked the mount slightly and no pics but got my 6pk780sf belt on but couldn't remove the pas pump as the allen bolts are made of cheese. will remove the washer bottle and drill them soon. [attachment=14800] [attachment=14801] And yesterday got some 3mm steel to make subframes with and started drilling. The seat in the pic will be a few inches further back when I'm finished but it gives you an idea. Just waiting for my drill to charge to put in a load more holes for adjustability as I'm not gonna use sliders on the drivers seat. Hopefully if the weather stays dry I'll have them in by the middle of next week. [attachment=14802] [attachment=14803]
