OK... so how it looks under the bonnet... A battered set of Jenveys and my pikey wiring:
and my filters which lose me 8hp! lol JP

Any word on how bad it is on fuel now?
And really..?! 8hp loss through those?! thats crazy
02-08-2013, 12:14 PM
Erm, pretty bad. That said, all the driving I've done has been balls to the wall just enjoying the noise and the power.
I've done about 50 miles to 1/4 of a tank truth be told 8bhp loss is accurate unfortunately, I think they are just too small.. I've got a big pipercross sausage filter and backplate to fit at some point, but need to relocate the power steering first. To be honest, while you can feel the 8bhp loss, it's still making like 197hp with them on so can't complain - they were only £25! JP

I spose for 8hp.. it's worth the loss to ensure the engine stays working..
Hmmm.. fair enough, be interesting to see how different from stock it is just driving normally

After all, it takes a certain amount of chemical energy to actually move that car... JP

Bit of a tunnel run tonight. My friend Dave was driving and we nearly managed 50mph in this one! :-)

Runway tunnels at Manchester? Like the out of the norm approach proving things like this can be achieved on stock management and get respectable gains

Where's the fun in copying everyone else and doing it normal?
Yeah, they are the Manchester airport tunnels. There's was a GTR doing exactly the same as us there last night too JP

I nearly got locked up for playing in them tunnels!!
Looking good fella. Very much what I'd do if I was to pick a set of ITB's up!

That's quite a substantial loss, 8 bhp. You can see why people are inclined to run them de-filtered.

Very interesting read mate. Can Wayne remap easy again then after the cams are changed or is it a big rigmarole, is it a lot harder to map this rather than a DTA for example?
Where else are you off to with it this year?
24-08-2013, 10:09 AM
looking and sounding sweet.
what rpm are you hitting for the limiter now? Wishes for more power...
24-08-2013, 12:13 PM
7850rpm limiter at the moment.
It's harder to map than a DTA etc, but now the biggest job is done (swapping to ITBs) the mapping changes for cams aren't too bad really. JP

not bad.
duno how these are...but we had my best mates rally racing puma on tbs, aftermarket management and ignition mind, but it was on a 9000 limiter...epic Wishes for more power...

OK, so a little update...
These arrived in the post: So stripped down: Took old out and compared: Re-fitted: Timed up: and while it was all in bits, removed this: blocked this: and fitted this: Which gives plenty of space for my new longer venturis and big filter / backplate: and now stands like this: In for mapping next week

Pretty aggressive, but not stupid... No, pistons are still stock, but the cam profile is such that while the lift is only as much as the stock piston allows, the duration is quite long. I don't expect much power below about 4k.

Ha ha quality!! Cue loads of stalling at junctions when cold lol!!! Love it

OK. So we're a step closer to getting it off for mapping. Got it running ok(ish) on the current mapping:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDCj5AnjXDI and sorted out the air filter setup. Just working on tuning the intake length a bit now with some longer trumpets and a 25mm spacer between the bodies and the manifold. Should help up the torque mid range... Thanks for looking, JP

Hi all,
I am playing with inlet lengths on the GTi6. Myself and Wayne Schofield found that we've made a lot more power with longer trumpets and even more length using spacers behind the filter housing. We are seeing the thick end of 220hp now and 185lbft across the board. So far we're using the standard Longmans manifold, 50mm of spacers and 90mm trumpets (120mm don't fit inside the filter). We made even more power by using 75mm spacers, but then the filter housing fouls the bonnet. How do people get to optimum length inlet? I did purchase a sachell inlet manifold about 2 months ago but it hasn't turned up yet, I'm led to believe that points the bodies down a bit more. Also, we've been trying to tune out the resonant frequencies in the torque curve by using two different lengths of trumpets on 2 banks of cylinders with some good results. Has anyone gone down this route before? Watch this space for pics, vids and dyno plots. There's a tonne of information about to hit the forum. JP
