Gave the rallye a wash today, polishes up pretty well :-)

Trolllolo.
It's a picture from about 2 years ago, the beauty of having a rallye is that it's as simple as a post on the rallye register to find the previous owners. I was curious to why it's had a full respray and guess that explains it.
Another nice thing I found out is that my friend from the mini club owned it about 9 months ago. Talk about small world haha

Standard 106 GTi's will pull from a '6 until around 100mph. This one has semi slicks, one seat and a dashboard

Well since this is my only mode of transport now, I've been cracking on with getting it ready to mot.
Sorted all the lights out, running without front arch liners had filled up all the connectors with road dirt, corroding the connectors so replaced the broken ones with spares I keep around just in case.
Going to sort strut tops out tonight then it's ready to go :-)

went for an mot the other day:
It didn't end well
basically, it doesn't have a cooling fan so when they left it running to do the emissions it overheated and spat all the coolant out the top hose. Test abandoned
so back to the drawing board so to speak, set about fitting a fan today and a manual override. s1 106 bumpers are a massive pita to get off, twice as many bolts as a 306
Mot again on thursday... watch this space haha

Why didn't you inform them it had no cooling fan? Or were you not aware? Could have resulted in all sorts of nasties.
My MOT tester asked me with the Rallye if the cooling fans worked ok, or if he should turn it off.

I did tell them, so as you can imagine i wasn't best pleased when they rang me to say the test had been abandoned because it had overheated. they were certainly in a hurry to refill it and offer me all sorts of money off when I asked to speak to the manager about the bill for a new engine. morale of the story, don't go to ETB with a car you care about

Hmmn, hope they haven't done any damage by refilling it with cold water.
I try not to leave my cars whenever they go for MOT. Being the enthusiastic motorist that I am I prefer to stay with the vehicle. That being said, my MOT tester is an absolute legend and takes twice as much care when he sees that you care for your car. I do always feel like i'm about to sit an exam though when the car goes in, even though they're normally fine.

Yeah normally I go to the same tester with all my cars, I'm just in the unfortunate position with this one that it hasn't got any tax or test so I'm limited to local places :-(
