Puggie's GTI-6 Refresh (free cars are best )
#1
Hi all

Over the coming months i will be updating my thread with the progress of my GTI-6

So lets start with the basics ThumbsUp

she is a 1998 6 in onyx black, been in my family since 2001 owned by my brother, so when i got the phone call do you want the 306 or its getting scrapped, i jumped at the chance Inlove always loved the 6.

So after getting in touch with my mate who has a recovery service.

off we went to halewood to collect the car. After my 2hr 30 mins journey we got the car loaded up sorry about the lack or artistic flair on my photo as my phones battery was running low Undecided
[Image: 20130212_152618_zps58e210ec.jpg]

The plan was to get back to Newcastle ASAP and drop the car off at college where i am dong my level 3 motor vehicle and have full access to a unit with four poster ramp We arrived about 3 hours 50 mins later
[Image: 35518_532390576782497_763365206_n_zps56c31b53.jpg]
As you can see i wasted no time in getting her up on the ramps for a inspection of the underside of the car. and was surprised as to how clean it was underneath saying the car had not been moved for 2 years

One things for sure there is a mega clean up on the cards found this after poping the bonnet
[Image: 20130212_183743_1_zps21ebc2f8.jpg]
Also found a nice wet patch in passengers side foot well which i have isolated to a door rubber.

Inside is a right mess :/

so after compiling a basic list of what i need i ordered the following

plugs
oil filter
fuel filter
water pump
Timing belt and tensioner
Front & rear disc's & pads
thermostat
oil
coolant

with the kids being off school last week i am unable to get started Angry
so i now have a boot full of parts ready to be fitted on monday

lots more to come in the coming weeks i have until june to ge the car in a roadworthy condition

that's all i have for the 205. sold it for 500 quid about 6 years ago. think i might have to see about getting it back at some point as it was in very good condition. full magnex 4-2-1 stainless system remap piper cams pulleys lowered 60mm all round. it was just a nice example

Well i managed to get cracking with the 6

did the following yesterday without any drama Smile

plugs
oil filter
fuel filter
water pump
Timing belt and tensioner
Front & rear disc's & pads
thermostat
oil
coolant

First turn of the key and she is alive Big Grin

found a blow from the bendy exhaust manifold gasket. Typical peugeot tbh, so that's on order from Peugeot

i will update with some progress pictures today. Next step is to start the clean down of the engine baytaking various parts off and making them look nice

Next question is

Red calipers with white wheels or silver wheels with white calipers

any pictures kicking about with a black 6 on white cyclones ?

and color coded side strips or keep them standard, and does anyone have any idea on the correct badge config for a phase 2 ? as i have a right mish mash of badges

Nice car!

My phase 2 came without any rear Gti 6 badge only the 306 badge, so, i removed the badges and bought a gti and a 6 badge on ebay Smile

have you thought about entering the PPC challenge? I would love to see a '6 taking part!

whats a PPC challenge ?

PPC £999 challenge is a challenge with 2 events (slalom and straight race) for people to build cars for under £1k.

The only issue i'd see is the "cost" of the car, in the rules you can't be "given a car" , if you do, you have to take into account the cost of the car to 'Joe Bloggs' - and could be hard to find a GTI6 fir under £1k alone, let alone the cost of getting it back on the road and MOT worthy, but would be a good competitor!

Ahh cool

Well as of this week the six stands me £ 386 quid Smile i have track rod ends and engine mounts to do other then that she looks to be in good condition i know my brother kept on top of things anyway so fingers crossed MOT time. That will be a few months down the line though after i get the silly little things cleaned and painted all nice i am going to wet sand the whole car Big Grin something that gives unreal results

Not bad - you'd also need to plus the cost the car from a 'Joe Bloggs' ontop of this Doh
