Ok what would you bunch of c*nts rather do
A - sit 300 miles away from home not be able to do anything because you hang got a car Or B - use a vectra which I was given for two months so I can go home and see the gf and have a life while I can take my time sorting the pug out? Hmm I know what I would choose. Team derv FLAME and CONROD spitters

Is have the vectra over the Pug anyway lol.....although being a perv, only if someone else was paying the fuel bill.
01-03-2013, 10:19 PM
Yeah, if it is the same engine as mine its not economical haha. Its only doing 4mpg more than our bmw does on track :$

pellowe you lady garden p.s dibs on your turbo when you inevitably start a similar thread to this when you throw a rod
I just hate how folk on here whine about reliability, i can understand if its a vaux/vag owner as the minority that whine about peugeots after owning one been crap, unreliable etc and are still quite active on these forums dont seem to be pushing much performance out of their vag/vaux to the extent folk do with peugeots, probably due to costs.. e.g how would a cdti 150 engine cope at 225bhp with a standard blower for reliability.... Actually the xud boys would be struggling for 50% over stock on standard blower for reliability imo.... BUT If the engine was running stock power i doubt you would be in this predicament. We all know XUD's chuck rods randomly, maybe had a spare known working engine on a pallet waiting? I dont know your personal circumstances bud but if you've got to commute long distances then fair do's, you'll probably find you'll hate the pug after driving a comfy car at standard ride height that doesnt rattle, less road noise, etc etc, i know if i had to travel 300 miles at a time id of definately sacked my 306 off Night night

Difference is you can get over 200bhp from a 150TDi or a 150TDCi fairly reliably with just a map as they were designed for more power to start with.... Xuds left the factory with nowhere near enough power tbh, shoulda been 115 atleast, and if they had, the internals woulda been strong enough for much more power still. Then to bring out a HDi with exactly the same amount if power is just daft imo....bring out a new car then give it more gadgets and more power!

Erm, the XUD's should have been around 110bhp apparently, so they wouldn't be any stronger...

Well that escalated quickly!!
Dont worry id be a tad tetchy if I had to drive a vauxhall around too! Lol Look in all seriousness pugs are shite, they have their problems just like every other car on the road and lets face it they are getting on a bit now so you cant expect the refinement of a new car. As said above who can expect total reliability when youve running 40-100%+ more power through them? But then you only have to look at c2k for example with 200k+ then look at other cars with similar mileage and you can see the diference. There is obviously a reason these cars have such a following at the end of the day, but if you are growing out of them go buy something else. But dont come crying when they drop to bits and end up costing you twice as much as the pug did.

Yep 306s are shite but there is something that makes them great. Ive had a 9 month old car for 70,000 miles and ive got a brand new car now for work and neither of them are like the 306. They were both quiet (well the turbo wasnt on the Octy lol), comfy, very easy to drive and fairly economical. What they arnt though is more reliable and they also certainly arnt fun! even "sporty" new cars arnt. My old manager has a brand new Audi A3 sport and it was the dullest thing to drive ever!
A 306 might rattle, make loads of road noise and not be economical but it has a bit of life to it and you want to drive it. I dont get up some days and think 'im looking forward to driving the Kia today' where as sometimes i do with the pug and that is so sad but most on here will understand how much of a smile they can put on your face. Except tom. Hes now going to put up a excessively long post about how shit everything in the world is and its the worst car ever because a 13 year old car doesnt do over 100mpg and cost absolutely nothing to fix!

Show me proof of this reliability. They werent designed to take more power, they are newer cars, literally, not the technology, just the cars themselves, so remapping a 150cdti to say 200, its obviously going to handle that better than say a higher milage 306, unknown SH, 5 owners, 100k+ ,ilage. This is why you cant moan about 306 reliability or its flaws, if you bought a 3 or 4 year old 306 back in 2004 with service history and low milage like the cars your comparing reliabilty with then fair do's, but lets face it whos 306 on here has a fully stamped genuine traceable service history? My car has FSH up to my ownership, not too sure if its genuine however!!!
And seriously why didnt you fix the golf, it looked quick on the vids and you clearly loved the vag thing, and you wouldnt have to stress about the pug not giving super eco mpg and shite gearing My bosses astra sri cdti150 58 reg company car had 2 sets of injectors (as vaux wont change 1 when it goes), a turbo and a clutch and flywheel in 3 years from new covering 44k when he give it back, 4.2k on repair bills in 3 years

oooh Aaron careful. apparently new cars never break down. never mind the fact my skoda had a clutch at 30k/9 months old, a DPF after that and a brake calliper that cracked and when i gave it back, had a f*cked engine mount, f*cked turbo (im going to be amazed if its still working!) and a really really f*cked DMF.
Oh and my Kia had a new throttle pedal at 400 miles/1.5 weeks old. Hmm, reliable!

No, im going in hard tonight Really, bit of a shocker from the VAG group there. Suppose you can forgive a kia, as a brand its improved in leaps and bounds... But dont you always give out a little sniggerto yourself when you say the word kia? or proton?

Thats the problem with newer cars, I wouldn't be surprised if they started putting anti tamper seals on them so only dealers/authorised garages can work on them soon

Thing is its not a shock when you consider audi and VW were both very very low down the reliability tables. And i know what you mean about kia but skoda was the same 10 years ago. Shockingly though, the kia is miles better than the skoda. Quieter, works better, better on fuel, drives much nicer...

Hmm I like most just associates VAG with reliability, just goes to show..
The kia on top gear actually looked the part and had all the gadgets, but then again it was directly up there competing with the focus and astra in price, that 7 year warranty will no doubt help sway it

My 306 is now in the same situation, needs so much spent on it that its not financially viable..... I understand that you guys like your cars and will 'waste' tonnes of money on them that you'll never get back. But i don't. Anjoyingly though, I'm gonna end up losing more on the 306 than the golf, despite the good having a higher purchase price. Also I'm not a vag fan at all, Infact I hate the scene of stupid big wheels and undriveable lows. And the badge tax. But the fact is, it was much quicker and much cheaper to run, it was comfy and well specced, and end of the day I got back what I paid. Any car that does those things is ideal for me, regardless of the badge on the front. I totally undrstand that opinion won't be shared by most of you.

Wow, theres some important and life changing lessons to be learnt from this thread, if only we knew what they were.

At the end of the I was given a vectra to drive around for FREE!! While I fix my pug. All I was saying is I'm pretty surprised with the insurance as the vectra is a 2.2 petrol! If you wanna slag none 306 cars off then go start a "slagging none 306 cars" thread up!

I "expect" failure everytime i drive the 306, you just have to take into thought that running an enormous turbo on an old diesel engine will very likely go spectacularly wrong one day, but thats what its all about isnt it? pushing limits?
ive had "reliable" performance cars in the past and admittedly its fun, but a few months later i just find them incredibly boring, its probably just me but i enjoy driving a car, finding its faults then thinking "how can I improve that?" i wouldnt change the 306 for anything right now, you take it to tesco just to buy milk or whatever and immediatly people are coming over asking me about it, its even happened that i parked next to a Lamborghini in town once, not one person gave it a second glance but within minutes i had people asking to see under the bonnet. not too shabby for a 1995 family hatchback eh? and thats my essay for pro 306

Like.. really really? Because from what I can see from the outside, it's just another clattery 306 hatchback with a big FMIC on it, like a lot of our pride and joys. Pretty sure 99% of the population don't give two shits, and of them about 60% probably see it and assume you're some kind of neddy twat anyway.

See in perspective that makes more sense, but parking in your local Tesco you'd just be classed as "another boy racer" and "probably a dick"
f*ck, i've always driven modified cars and assume others are dicks unless I speak to them

I see loads of them round here, a guy in an Escort with a stickerbombed wing, a guy in an Astra with ridiculously coloured HID's, a fart canned saxo.. i see them pass by my house and instantly assume they're penises. They're probably all sound guys, but if I think that, what do the general public think?
