Ill help if im off, defo easiest just to throw eds spare engine in. If ed wants to rebuild one let him rebuild yours.

I think Ed wants to keep his spare because cambelt.

That's a right shitter mate, honestly can't believe it's actually snapped the belt? What sort of rpm were you doing? And you said it carried on running after...if there's no belt how did that happen?

The belt originally shredded, and the car stalled, I then started it again thinking it had just stalled, revved it to get it going and made things worse. I havent seen the belt yet, tbh it might not be snapped. But tbh it really didn't sound right.

Horrible noises = new head. I'm not taking any chances lol

Ah okay, maybe I misread your post. I'm guessing you must have been going fairly slowly when it stalled though?

Tbh for peace of mind I'd be tempted to go and have a look to check what's happened.

It wouldnt of snapped. More than likely shredded and stretched or slipped a tooth or two.

Well will Inspect it all tommorow. Getting a new head anyway as it was a good price. So will replace it as wanted to do the headgasket anyway, if my heads all good then I'll just sell my head onto someone. ( I know ginge wants one Tongue )

If it slipped a tooth it would have bent valves anyway no?

Not necessarily...the exhaust timing was out on my old GTi-6 (only found out when I saw the new owner at Pugfest!) and that was okay, it just wasn't as quick as it should have been. Actually, thinking about it now, maybe a dodgy cambelt fitting was actually the cause of you not being able to pull away from Sam's arse?

The fact that it still ran near the end makes me think you may get away with just putting a belt on... As if it didn't let go properly and just slipped then they may have not had a coming together...

That could well have been the issue. I did think about it when I spoke to curt last. I thinking just to be on the safe side sticking a new head on anyway. Wouldnt want to fit the new cambelt and find I've got a tapper!

my arse has it's own gravitational pull. due to being awesome.
true story.

on a related note, id have tought if its slipped a bit, ie more than a tooth, thered have been contact. timimg can still be flexible, to a few degrees, even tho there is very little clearance in these engines

I thought the valves stupidly minimal amount of play and thus slipping one or two teeth would cause an instant death of the valves?

yeah, my post was bable to be honest, basically, i think one tooth is fine, but anymore and id have thought there'd be issues.
it may have been that your timing was out a little bit anyway, and then if the belt slipped some more, taptapdingding.

Normally I'd be inclined to agree 100%. Only thing that gives it more hope IMO is that it was still running after the "incident".

Oh dear god no, no-one wants an engine that sounds like Ed's! It's like being under machine gun fire

yeah if the steering was f*cking about, then the aux belt will have been, thus affecting power to the
PAS pump.

When your engine taps so hard you can't turn...That's when you know it's bad.

That's a lynx mls head gasket and bolts
Oem cambelt kit

And a alloy crank pulley Big Grin

I don't think that's a bad price. I means it's 100 more than what I guess would normally cost but the alloy Pully is £90 anyway....
