Yea my hockey sticks are messed up even though they are brand new.
Going to take the front end apart and just attach them to the headlights.
02-09-2012, 07:36 PM
most people dont fit the clips properly. you need to take the headlight out to fit them properly which is gay but mine were perfect on my old XS....until someone reversed into it!

The wrapping company fit mine even though I asked them not to, I guess they wanted finished pics. Might have to have a look this week.

No updates for a while! So heres the start of my new project
take one Raspberry Pi one 7" touchscreen display (without casing obviously) and a whole lot of cables, fibreglass and geeking and you will eventually have one car computer! Plan is to have the screen mounted down where the ashtray is with the computer and everything else behind. Primarily it will be used for Satnav and live OBD readouts but will also have all sorts of media on there. i did build a car computer in my old 106 and it was a good gimic but i had to get rid of the head unit which was an issue for cds (i never bothered buying a cd drive) and was also a pain waiting for the computer to boot for music. Good thing about the Raspberry Pi is it draws a maximum of 600mA which is bugger all so there is no reason why i cant have it on a permanent live so its always on even when the cars off but set it through a timed relay with a time of a few days. That way if i go on holiday and dont use the car for a while, it wont drain the battery. Second one is to use it on a switched live off the CL so as soon as i unlock the car, it starts booting. very quick mock up messing around with a few bits of software last night will be needing alot of help from the forum geeks (scott and fail feet) with the programming so might take some time to do it!

If you can't find a signal for the CL then is there any reason why a micro switch couldn't be run off one of the door pins?
Thought about using a similar setup for an external switch for the boot popper... Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

It is pretty cool. I just wouldnt use it. I wouldnt even know where to start setting up somthing like that .
17-09-2012, 11:02 AM
Exactly what i was thinking of doing niall... Should be an epic little project once finished, what system are you planning on using?
17-09-2012, 11:09 AM
Haven't quite decided what software were using. Me and fooby spent ages last night installing some bits on the Pi and found some good bits but not sure how good for a car computer plus I would also like a way of integrating satnav which I think would be extrememly difficult with the software we installed.
Hardware wise it's basically going to be what you can see above with a USB port on the dash for plugging in memory sticks. Will also have wifi so when I park it outside my house, it can sync to my computer for new music. Also will have a wireless Internet dongle so I can be on the forum at every set of traffic lights :p

If you had the correct senders/sensors etc could you make one of these display water/oil temp/pressure boost etc?

Or a 99p USB Bluetooth module from eBay and a bluetooth OBD adapter from eBay for £13 and then whatever diag software you want....
I believe I'm correct in saying you can put android on the Pi.. not sure how it works with detecting hardware etc.. but if the above would be possible using android, that's the way i'd go, plenty of decent android apps that'd do all the diagnostics you'd need
18-09-2012, 03:20 PM
dont think android has been ported across to the RPI yet
18-09-2012, 03:25 PM
Not yet it would seem... but soon... http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1700
I'd definitely swap to android as soon as a decent release is made!
18-09-2012, 03:32 PM
Nah. Android won't be anywhere near as flexible as linux. At least with linux and fooby, i can practically have what i want within reason

Well small update
Finally got my longlife fitted! Sounds much better on the 6 than it did on the 1.8. Still got some oil in though as when i gave it some and it got hot, was smoking like a transit lol also, MOT is due very soon and ive got two things to fix. Rear brakes and wishbones and tracking. Couldn't do the wishbones as Kris cant get them till tuesday so thought id tackle the brakes. That was a mistake! New pads and discs for £30 thanks to the 30% off at ECP. Removed the wheels and straight away was aware that both discs would barely move (and yes i had the handbrake off.....) Whipped the discs and pad carriers off to wind the pistons back and they were seized Ended up removing both callipers and stripping them, cleaning them up and freeing them up. Work much much better now (well actually work!) clearly wernt working properly. Other side was worse! Before After Hope i dont have to do that again any time soon!
