I think braided lines is another mod for me to add to the list. Do they just make the the brakes feel sharper?

Yes, they do not expand and contract under high pressure as much as standard hoses.
Varying volumes from the hoses expanding means that some of your pedal effort is just expanding hoses rather than squeezing a caliper.
