You might want to read up on NZ mods too.
I chopped the front of my Honda away to fit a bigger FMIC. I've broken a variety of regs on modding chassis that mean the car wont pass the NZ WOF test even tho it's effectively stronger.
I've changed the front tie arms for rose jointed stronger ones, but the pick ups being in a different place mean it's also a no go, despite being chromoly and massively stronger than OEM.
The issue being the shell will no longer deform as per a stock car in a frontal impact.
Plus many mods require pricey govt certification before you can ever get it to a WOF station.
Also IIRC there is a percentage increase in engine power over stock - not 100% sure on that one, would have to check again.
Whilst our insurance situation is terrible here compared to some countries, what we are allowed to get away with is fantastic in comparison and IMHO completely offsets insurance issues once you get some NCB behind you and out of your early 20's.
