well tbh I have run it on anything I could get hold of for the last 20,000 miles and not had a problem, other than a bit of smoke, which I have now put down to using clean engine oil not used stuff, all these horror stories you hear are rubbish, me and my mates all run cheap diesels and run them on pure shit and they all keep going 
only thing my hdi doesn't like is red diesel, but engine oil, veg oil, sunflower oil, gearbox oil, used chip fat etc it loves, each to there own but 306's are old and cheap as chips so if it goes bang throw it away and get another one lol
