Guide: quickshift
#1
No one appeared to have done one so I thought I may...delete it if no one cares much admin...

Anyway....

First buy one
I have only ever bought one...I won it less than 48hours ago on ebay, it arrived today and its now fitted so I feel obliged to recommend the seller...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...0962537121

...it will arrive....and look like this

You only need basic kit and DIY knowledge...
also...a 10mm spanner, 12mm spanner/socket and 10mm deep socket and ratchet, some grips, a lever, a phillips screwdriver and flat for the trim bits and some wd40/doubleTT and grease...some threadlock too will help. oh and jack and axle stand.

pull back the sleeve and remove the knob...takes some getting off. I found that grips clamped to shaft and then leaver up against the bottom of the knob using the grips as a push off surface.

then remove gaitor
[Image: 20121211_171216.jpg]

then undo the four nuts around the gear selector shaft...
you will need to remove the trim around the handbrake for this as they are under the trim/first set of rear 10mm bolts

To avoid removing the front trim I used a ratchet spanner on the rear two...

then jack one side of the car up, make it safe and get under...
you may have a exhaust shield to deal with...i didnt... you will be faced then with this:

You want a 10mm spanner and 12mm spanner or socket.
Undo and push the bolt through...it may need some help, mine was quite stuck in there. Note the TT residue I used to help free it!

then with encouragement...

to the work bench...

remove the rubber sleeves and metal surround...

then unclip the white retaining ring...there is four clips holding this on, be careful not to break them, warm them up if needed...you will then have to push the ball joint out...bit of TT oil helped with this.
you should then have this: (note copper grease for refitting)

grease up the new ball joint and pop it all back togetheir...
then the rubbers...

then bolt it back in the car...I found doing the four retaining bolts BEFORE the connecting bolt under the car the easiest way.
Make sure you give the retaining bolt bit of grease but the thread some threadlock.

replace all the bits...and

bit cold for me and it looked crap....so
