quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 No one appeared to have done one so I thought I may...delete it if no one cares much admin... Anyway.... First buy one I have only ever bought one...I won it less than 48hours ago on ebay, it arrived today and its now fitted so I feel obliged to recommend the seller... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150962537121 ...it will arrive....and look like this You only need basic kit and DIY knowledge... also...a 10mm spanner, 12mm spanner/socket and 10mm deep socket and ratchet, some grips, a lever, a phillips screwdriver and flat for the trim bits and some wd40/doubleTT and grease...some threadlock too will help. oh and jack and axle stand. pull back the sleeve and remove the knob...takes some getting off. I found that grips clamped to shaft and then leaver up against the bottom of the knob using the grips as a push off surface. then remove gaitor then undo the four nuts around the gear selector shaft... you will need to remove the trim around the handbrake for this as they are under the trim/first set of rear 10mm bolts To avoid removing the front trim I used a ratchet spanner on the rear two... then jack one side of the car up, make it safe and get under... you may have a exhaust shield to deal with...i didnt... you will be faced then with this: You want a 10mm spanner and 12mm spanner or socket. Undo and push the bolt through...it may need some help, mine was quite stuck in there. Note the TT residue I used to help free it! then with encouragement... to the work bench... remove the rubber sleeves and metal surround... then unclip the white retaining ring...there is four clips holding this on, be careful not to break them, warm them up if needed...you will then have to push the ball joint out...bit of TT oil helped with this. you should then have this: (note copper grease for refitting) grease up the new ball joint and pop it all back togetheir... then the rubbers... then bolt it back in the car...I found doing the four retaining bolts BEFORE the connecting bolt under the car the easiest way. Make sure you give the retaining bolt bit of grease but the thread some threadlock. replace all the bits...and bit cold for me and it looked crap....so job done works a treat RE: quickshift - Scott - 11-12-2012 Nice guide, thanks for posting that Re: quickshift - Tyronnster - 11-12-2012 Tempted for one now RE: quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 feels very good...getting some rods from Miles too for the new hdi box/2.1...will feel great then i hope oh...if this helps anyone now or in future...please donate to forum...even if its a quid RE: quickshift - Jonny81191 - 11-12-2012 Alternative option, not wanting to hijack the thread, it's just a cheaper way of achieving the same thing: I added about 5cm, using 12mm threaded bar, then tapped the gearstick and welded it up solid. RE: quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 cheaper IF you have a welder.... plus there was play in old nylon ball joint...now gone RE: quickshift - Jonny81191 - 11-12-2012 true.. very true RE: quickshift - c.gerrard - 11-12-2012 Is that a bodge I see? F*ck you. it's still going strong AFAIK RE: quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 (11-12-2012, 09:32 PM)c.gerrard Wrote: Jonny's welding skills. yeah I have seen neater chicken poo RE: quickshift - ben87 - 11-12-2012 Good little guide - even cheaper way for people is just get a hacksaw to existing gear lever and cut a few inches off RE: quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 but the gear knob wont fit then....you would have to buy a aftermarket knob. want to do it right...then do it right RE: quickshift - RJDubya - 11-12-2012 How does it feel with the shorter shift now its done? Toying with the idea of getting 1 while they're going cheap on Ebay. RE: quickshift - Piggy - 11-12-2012 its obviously a heavier change....but it has halved the throw...i measured it. so as before my left foot was faster than my left arm....its a bit more even now RE: quickshift - Daniel306 - 11-12-2012 This is how i did mine, same idea as the GE quickshift but i also shortened the sideways throw quickshift - ben87 - 12-12-2012 Piggy I used the standard knob lol RE: quickshift - CJ_Derv - 12-12-2012 (11-12-2012, 09:17 PM)Piggy1987 Wrote: feels very good...getting some rods from Miles too for the new hdi box/2.1...will feel great then i hope Rods?? you do know the 2.1 has a shorter rod dont you? RE: quickshift - Piggy - 12-12-2012 yeah...gearchange rods...for the hdi gearbox :-) (12-12-2012, 01:40 PM)ben87 Wrote: Piggy I used the standard knob lol so it now spins and turns with any bit of pressure...I cant be having that! lol RE: quickshift - CJ_Derv - 12-12-2012 Sorry i thought u meant conrods lol RE: quickshift - Piggy - 13-12-2012 (12-12-2012, 08:41 PM)CJ_Derv Wrote: Sorry i thought u meant conrods lolnah...the conrods/internals are good enough for what I am aiming for RE: quickshift - Tom - 05-06-2013 Does the bottom of the gearstick not get close to the exhaust now? RE: quickshift - Piggy - 05-06-2013 not even close! I got the adjustable one for the cossack and I think that can go even lower...but still clears by quite a bit RE: quickshift - camoturd - 02-02-2014 Was very very helpful RE: quickshift - Piggy - 02-02-2014 (02-02-2014, 12:14 AM)camoturd Wrote: Was very very helpful Good good |
