i made an error and booked my MOT a bit to early so had to cancel that today,
so instead i took the time to fit the B8's with Euback springs that i have refurbished. i bought these second hand and when they turned up they were in poor condition once i stripped to inspect them so i decided to refurb them with a good clean with electrolisis then rust treatment and a coat of paint I have a top tip for expanding the hud grip from the pinch bolt ive seen it mentioned else where and it works a treat! 8mm hex key into the slot and turn No hammer or chisels old hub out new in no trouble! have been and had the tracking re done just to set my mind at rest car is a lot different on these now to get used to them and find their limits on a side not ive blagged some white self adhesive vinyl for some temporary repair of the paint flakes and also some black to redo the door B pillars as that looks old and tired https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ GTI6 Info Don’t drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

today if finished something i started last year and to be honest its made a big difference to the car wish id finished this earlyer
have finished and fitted the enlarged throttle body to enlarge it, I roughed it out in a lathe first, then I finished it with a small grinding stone, where it broke through the casting i filled it with chemical metal from the outside and smoothed it with the stone, on fitting it, I fitted a new Gasket which I enlarged the opening so to not cause restriction https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ GTI6 Info Don’t drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Yeah they do make a huge difference, I love my ported body.
17-04-2015, 12:19 PM
I've been wanting to do this for a while, known to make a nice difference on tu5 engines so should be great on an Xu10 with that lovely inlet manifold.
Time to get busy on the lathe

Just a standard day in the run up to French car show ticked off today's list was oil change air filter Plugs Ive also opened up the fan cowling to let more Air through the oil cooler cause ive booked hot weather for track time another thing I have done is added some wiring to the impact sensor so I can bridge it out with a blade fuse while on track so bianca is nearly ready things left to do.. nut and bolt check https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ GTI6 Info Don’t drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

This thing really is looking beautiful... Any chance of a guide for the impact switch mod? Lots more members getting into track time now, would be useful to have.
27-05-2015, 08:14 PM
How often do you set off the impact switch? I've only managed it once or twice in bastard low cars hitting monster pot holes, is it really that much of an issue on track?
Car is looking super clean though.
27-05-2015, 08:29 PM
The car is far from clean today its dirty!
ive still got to clean it before show what ive done for the mod is...... the impact switch has 2 wires to the bottom, connect one wire of the same gauge to each wire, run wires to engine bay fuse box. crimp spade crimps on each wire. when on track insert 30amp fuse into the spades to bridge the kill switch. if the switch activates the load is taken through the fuse bypassing the kill switch remove fuse to turn car back to standard https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ GTI6 Info Don’t drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Haha thanks, i figured as much, just thought others might benefit. Keep meaning to make a guide full of minor useful track mods, switchable fans etc, but struggle to find the time/inclination.
It's not likely to be needed, Chris, but if the worst happens i'd like to be able to get off track without having to be towed or getting out to reset the switch lol. |
