I also have two weeks off work beginning of September so hoping to get some stuff fitted to the car, being itching to do some work on it, been way too busy breaking my dturbo and stupidly busy at work to even drive it recently haha

Stripped the spare subframe I have, I'll be having it completely seam welded, shot blasted then powder coated.
Always wanted to seam weld a subframe and I guess this is a pretty good opportunity, I do quite fancy a lower strut brace too but this seems the more ground clearance friendly solution

I've got two weeks off work next month, going to make a start at porting them out a bit to make the flow smoother on the join.

I might be acquiring another gti6 for spares soon, if it happens I'll build myself a high comp engine and use the bodies with that.

Basically I'm not in much of a rush until my 106 has been restored

Lower brace should be fine mate. You know the height of mine and its splitter scraping...but I dont wack the brace all that often. And thats with soft front end setup!

Always wanted to do this mind...LOTS of BIG gaps!!! If you get another subframe...let me know!!!!

I actually do have another subframe haha, you can have it if you want, or I can get it seam welded for you

Definitely some rigidity to be gained though they're pretty much just pressed together

I'll give it a thorough going over on the ramp when I get it home to see what I'm dealing with, the front bumper has been obliterated by a badger or something which led to it coming off the road and now into my collection haha
