The modifying bug...

Bought my 306 about 5 months ago as a daily... with the intention of keeping it standard....cone air filter. Straight through pipe and pretty little back box. Remap. Sound system later and im planning on set of challengers and lowering and a FMIC

Now i dont know about you guys but everytime I buy a car it has to be modified. I worked out how much money id have if I didn't buy all the cars ive owned. Id have enough money to own a Aston Martin DB9. Seems so silly when you think of it haha

Be bored and eventually have an Aston Martin...that will probably bore you as you'll want to modify it or enjoy yourself the whole time with cheaper modified cars.

I know which I'd choose.

Im getting bored of it all tbh. I think mainly because my car is almost where i want it (except more power which will be done with in a few months).
Even with the charger build, I'm loosing enthusiasm and just want it done but i think thats also partly due to the fact its cold and shit outside now lol

I find there is stuff I want to do, I'm just really lethargic about doing any of it. Currently got '6 brakes stripped for painting, solid beam mounts to go on, want FMIC, will need a service soon, need to change bottom rad hose, new wheels. Then there's stuff to do on the moped too and other projects I have on the go/thinking about.

Yet what do I do? I play GTA or Dota when I get home and do nothing productive :/

I couldn't buy a already modified car. I like to know things are done to a good standard so couldn't buy a car where there is a chance someone has bodged something.

I got the mod bug when my now ex-girlfriend became extremely ill, i needed something to take my mind off things while she was recovering and at the time i had a 1.4 306 vivant spec.
All i had done to it since i got it was put a head unit in and that was how it was going to stay, but when she went in i decided to have a go at dying the fabric interior black as it was disgusting, and ended up making one hell of a mess of it...
That night i found a half leather leaf pattern interior for cheap, soon after that alloys, then went through 3 sub woofers, rear wiper removed, 307 rear headrests, newer speakers, upper strut brace, boot lid spoiler, phase 3 front and rear bumpers and finally crystal headlights.
Now the dturbo has quite a few mods that the sedan will inherit when iv finished working on the engine.
I love it. I love being able to stand back and look at what iv done and be proud i did that, the aspect of learning how something works, how to make it better and why its better. But the money side, oh ouch the money side....

This really for me. I love modifying and making plans, when i start them they're great. End result is epic. When the car is looking amazing at shows its ask worth while. But atm im just not motivated. Even with the '6 I can't find the motivation.

when i first came into the car modding scene i was 19, an ex bf got me into it. I spent 15k on a saxo lol my first car and my first project. How did it cost 15k you ask, coz i paid someone to do everything to do it. I loved it and at the time it was the way most people modded their cars. Now that i am older and wiser OEM and subtle changes are best, no longer do i drive soemthing that looks like ive ram raided halfords lol.
In the winter i hate my car and want to set it on fire, only coz it is too cold to work on her lol, but in the summer im always full of big plans

I was only 12 years old with a Renault 5 GTT on my want list. I was playing need for speed dreaming about being a boy racer haha. Max power carried on for a while quite gutted its gone really. Was fun

I could tell that was the early 2000s from the picture quality. The cameras back then took different looking pictures to nowadays.

I remember being 13 back in '03 and reading Max Power, Redline and Revs (along with computer mags PCGamer, PC Zone and Computeractive). Man I miss those early 2000s, it seems like we had all the technology we had nowadays but it was all new, now stuff seems to have stagnated. Still remember NFS:Underground as well.

Anyway before I go off on a nostalgic tangent.

Yes I enjoy modding. But the reason I enjoy it is because I find satisfaction from it. It's not an investment like some people think. You pay your money and you get your experience from it. The whole reason I got a DT was because it was cheaply modable. Go back on theywhoshallnotbenamed and have a look at my thread there from 2009. I ask everyone on the forum which they think is the best for mods and they all say DT.

Some people like a car with all the latest technology, I don't. I like to play with it's setup like with a touring car.

Its certainly an experience that cant be had buying a brand new motor. And ill still do it till the day I die. I still haven't owned a R5GTT so got that to come yet. Good to see im not on my own tho

I never did anything massive to any of my cars though, the most I've ever spent was on some decent coilovers for my MX5. I procrastinate too much and tend to justify all my spending in my head, so I've never spent thousands on any of my cars.

I'm done with modifying now, would rather something safe, comfortable and that starts in the morning to get me from A to B! I've become an old man.

im like you C.A.R i ended up buying a brand new Clio 4, but i always felt a little bit meh with it. So bought my 306 6 as a project and im glad i did. Although some days i wish i never. I think everyone has up and down days when they mod cars. However i think nowadays we dont mod over the top we just improve lol

Myself, I'm more interested in retro stuff now, that doesn't have to be modified to be interesting. Like the '85 Supra I'm viewing this weekend, it has digital dials, dished wheels and 160bhp all standard. 306 will stay as a daily though.

Oh man, you are younger than me I think! How did you end up in such a predicament lol No I think having kids changes people. It's the same in the gaming community. Quite sad to see really, but then I only say that because I am always one of the losers left behind

Cheap cars & modifying go hand in hand. 306's are an excellent example.

I wouldn't spend £10k+ on a BMW or something and then feel the need to modify it.

During the summer time I want to spend all day everyday outside tinkering, changing,fixing,breaking then fixing again
Winter time as people say it gets too cold and the car gets dirty and messy and it just doesn't feel the same

It sounds kind of sad, but I don't feel like I'm 'missing out', since I got a lot of the modifying thing out of my system. I think I'd have felt differently if my daughter was prohibiting me 'having fun' with cars, but I've owned nice cars, quick cars and even a couple of cabriolets. Hardly a dream garage, but all bought and paid for by myself too, so I can have that to be proud of also.

I play games less, go out less, buy less (haven't bought any new clothes for myself in months!) but when you get photo's like this you don't regret a thing. She got a new hat on Friday, I think she likes it!

I decided to wait until the insurance dropped before I did any mods, I have always found the 306 to be a good setup out of the box. The max power image didn't attract me at all, I have always been its what's under the bonnet.
so the OEM Sleeper. I tend to mod cars that people don't expect to be modded, plus I like to be different too!

God, if i had 10k to spend on a car in the first place, id deffo need to budget in another 10k to at least tripple the output, or else you might as well just have an ax with a busa engine.
