DTurbo is just a trim level. Cloth sports seats and GTi suspension basically.

The engine choice is 2.0 HDi (common rail) or 1.9 XUD (mechanical injection).

They are both 90bhp as standard so neither are exactly powerful. DTurbo's arent particularly comfy either, you want a meridian for comfort really, softer suspension and half leather seats, as well as a leather steering wheel and gear knob.

The HDi can be remapped for more power.
The XUD fuel pump can be tweaked for more power.

So really it depends on the person as to which is 'best'. Smile

what happened to the 1.4 project that i see for sale in bits?

Hdi is more refined, economy. Dturbos easier to tune, more fun to play with.
either way tax is a killer on both!

petrol would cost me a bomb, and id just rather a diesel, tax is ridiculous, but i should be okay :-D insurance is cheaper than what im paying on the 1 litre, so is a hdi a good buy?

I thought you wanted comfort!? lol

Tbh you should do a bit of research/searching on here really.

Power is in the eye of the driver, I've always hated how slow HDis are lol, but from a 1.0 Corsa maybe they'll seem quick! That said, if you can flash a map and know the right people you can up the power to around 120bhp for like £20, which is 'enough' really, not quick, but makes it driveable at least lol. If you like fiddling with screws and getting covered in crap you can tweak the XUD yourself for the same kinda power.

As for torsion bars, yes all 306's have those.

can be troublesome, look at how many whats wrong with my hdi threads there are on here...
injectors, high pressure and low pressure fuel pumps and fuel rail pressure sensors can all go
typical modern car problems really, more electrics more faults

out of interest what car is this?
if its the one im thinking of i just got offered it for 500

HDis really aren't that slow tom, you just buy broken ones. :p

And ok they have their issues, but there's similar stereotpes for XUDs - headgaskets or rust for example.

700 euros seems a damn good price to me, perhaps too good - what's wrong with it haha. HDi dturbos are meant to have slightly lower suspension too i think.

Hdi's may have their electric problems, but it beats throwing a rod and having the contents of your engine all over the road

yeah, nothing as bad as travelling to see a yoke n it be shite, before i bought 406 i have now, went look at a different one that was shite, lad wanted 900, dropped to 850, 97, 196k, less nct than he said, more miles than advertised, drivers window broke n bushings hanging a sunder. then he had the cheek to say i was wasting his time!!!!

was only going to look at that 306 as its practically on me way home haha

At least an XUD does it properly, a HDi you'll have a thousand fault codes, need a new lift pump, need a new FRPS, injectors rattling, immobiliser deicded to forget itself etc etc.

If you can name a rod being bust on an XUD below 140hp in the past year I'll be impressed... It's so uncommon in the grand scheme of things... There's a thread near enough weekly on a HDi not starting..

hdi's have their common electrical faults / fuel system but again these only seem common as most common folk don't have a clue what to do and threads are started over and over again. At least with stronger internals you dont have to rebuild the engine or change head gaskets etc which for me isn't really viable

I did have like a thousand faults codes lol as Niall said when he plugged pp2000 in the ecu was nearly full. After a quick wipe and cleaning fpr haven't had any engine problems since.
But once you go over 140.. then you're in rod territory? Once you go there with hdi worst people seem to get is a cut out which is like rod throwing but without the Mario kart oil slick
And yes we may need new lift pumps now and then but it beats a warped head now does it haha

1905cc XUD . . . spoke to a few mechanics that reckon HDI was the worst thing they ever did to that engine . . . .and i agree Smile

Ah, but it was still running with all those fault codes wasn't it?!

Yeah fair point Ru, i suppose the odd electrical issue does completely outweigh all the benefits of direct injection and ecu control - economy, power, refinement, etc. Besides, the only really big power diesel round here was Darrens and that's a XUD, OWAIT! :p

I second this.

140+ and you mean have rod issues...but not all do.

and with a hdi over 140+ and you huge clutch issues!

2.0hdi....worst thing they did imo
