Ashers' Phase 1 Sigma DT
#1
Hi guys,

On Saturday I did a 420 mile round trip to go and pick up a Phase 1 Sigma DT, previously owned by a member on this forum... Chris (Pepper).

Here is a couple of pics of how she stood when I arrived to pick her up (not my pics, just taken from the sale ad)...

May seem like quite a distance to travel for a car (especially considering all the snow/ice on the weekend) but I had just sold my GTI-6 a couple of days before which was also advertised on here, needed a car to get to and from work in, and always wanted a Phase 1 in Sigma Blue!!

Anyway, so far I'm absolutely made up with her! This is my fourth 306 I've owned, and my second DT. As I said, my last one was a GTI-6 with a few subtle mods and whilst I do miss her (the turn of speed and the induction noise she made), I'm also loving the much increased fuel economy and comfort of the DT. In an ideal world I would have a DT as a daily and a GTI-6/Rallye for weekend use and a track toy, but until funds allow the DT will have to do for now.

So onto the Sigma.... there are a few niggly things I need to get sorted as you would expect with any car approaching 20 years in age, but on the whole she is a very clean and sound 306. Main things needing attention so far are:

1) Stiff clutch pedal
2) Stiff accelerator pedal
3) Crappy standard washer jets
4) Central locking issues - common issue where you go to lock the door and then it automatically unlocks immediately after

Couple of other things I would like to sort but are not as much of a priority at the moment:

1) Brakes a little spongy
2) Dent on driver's door (pretty much the only bodywork issue)
3) No bonnet sound proofing at present

I already have my list of things I would like to do during my ownership....

Suspension and Braking
New OE Dampers (Front and Rear)
Eibach/Spax Front Springs (40mm)
GTI-6/Rallye Disc Beam - Lowered to match front
New Rear Wheel Bearings (advisory on last MOT)
GTI-6 Front Calipers and Master Cylinder
Rear Calipers (if not with Beam)
GTI-6 Front Discs and Pads (already have these brand new from my last GTI-6)
Pagid Rear Discs and Pads
New Handbrake Cables (Disc)
Braided Brake Hoses (some brake hoses were advisory on last MOT)
AP Racing Brake Fluid
New OE Beam Mounts (or second hand Solid Mounts)

Mini Service
Decent Oil
Genuine Pug Oil Filter (have this, waiting to be fitted)
New Air Filter - OE or K&N Replacement
New Fuel Filter
NGK Glow Plugs

Bodywork and Exterior
Sort Dent in O/S Door or Source a Replacement Door
Spray Front and Rear Bumpers (scuffs on corners)
Replacement Fuel Cover (tab currently broken and doesn't stay closed)
Remove Stripe Decals
Cyclone Alloy Wheels
Refurbish Wheels - Gloss Black or Anthracite

Interior
New Carpet Mats
New Bulbs for Dials/Clocks (one half of clocks is not illuminated)
GTI-6 Steering Wheel
Remove Metal Pedals
Fit Momo Gear Knob

General and Other
Uprated Headlight Bulbs (Ring Xenon Ultima H4)
Xsara Mist Washer Jets (have these, waiting to be fitted)
Metal Gear Linkages
New Door Looms and Investigate Central Locking Problems
New IR Key Fob - Programme to Car (once central locking is sorted)
Metal/Chrome Exhaust Trim
New Clutch Cable (clutch pedal is quite stiff)
New Accelerator Cable (accelerator pedal very stiff)
Source a Phase 1 Bonnet Sound Proofing

Not too fussed on tuning the engine at the moment. If I did decide to do something with it then this would come last on the list, and instead of tuning the XUD engine I would perhaps consider putting a 406 V6 engine in, but who knows!

Some of the above I have already got on to, but I hope to carry out a few things gradually each month.

I will update the thread with some more photos once the car has had her much needed clean this weekend, and then will keep updating as and when I upgrade something or just feel like whoring a few pics!

Cheers for now.

Ash

Looks alright :-)
Gotta look out for a sigma ph1 now :-P

The material under the bonnet isn't just sound deadening it also channels a lot of air to the top mount which would reduce temperature and increase fuel econ slightly
I'll see if I have one spare (should do as I took mine off)

Yeah I hate the mate too, you'll notice replacing mats is on my list of things to do, but until I get a new set I'll leave them in for now. Also hate the pedals.

Nice buy mate, is a tidy little motor, those wheels just dont do it justice though, And surly the above should read new OE gti dampersBig Grin

Oh and GTI ARB is a good upgrade for a DT if your doing the rear beam

Thanks bud Smile

And good spot, it should indeed read GTI dampers. I can't wait to get a set of Cyclones on, hate the wheels that are on it at the moment!
