heh how do you guys get through so much fuel i thought using a tank a month was alot

Well, dropping my lass off at work and then me going to work, then picking her up and going home is 20 miles a day 6 days a week so that's a tank just commuting. Then trips out on weekends, going for a hoon, 1100 miles in 1 week twice a year going to Cornwall, it adds up fast. 2 tanks a month is my minimum which is a 60 quid a month saving, and that pays my insurance and phone bill...

Funny how you quote the price on Veg by using 65 litres...

Where do you find your diesel so cheap? Because around here the price at the moment is £1.429, so 65 litres at that is £92.88. So £33.08 a tank is a fair saving imo.

Aswell as clutches starting to shit themselves at the increased torque! One of the reasons I sold my FMIC set-up..the vans already a leaking piece of shit without me adding to the problems lol

But yeah, a stage 1 HDI would do you nicely! Maybe a more-door/estate for practicality.

A tank every 6 weeks!? How the hell do you do that!? Confused

I barely go out at all now, just when I really have to which is only 3 or 4 times a week and still can't quite make a tank last a month. Sad


I was doing a tank a week in the broken HDi at one point! lol

I have to drive further than that just for a post office. Dodgy

I was doing 60+ miles a day, every day when I was at college. Living in the stix sucks.

Xud is cheaper to look after if youre handy with the spanners, hdis are just as reliable, but more of a pain to fault-find on. However, and I hope you'll excuse me for saying so, it doesnt sound like you're looking fot something you can fix yourself. As such you will probably be better served by the newer interiors, greater refinement and better mpg in the hdis, as standard.

Adam, maybe if you could be bothered with things like veg you'd be a bit better off... Wink

Adam. There is a place in farlington called 'hopelake' food wholesales and they do 20l of sunflower for £18 but only on Sundays. Stayed at that price for 2+ years lol

So I'm still undecided but feel better as I have more info. to consider and make my decision on.
I like mending cars but the lack of time is a big issue for me. 2 kids and a job and a wife and a few other hobbies which I don't have time for gets in the way! The daily hack needs to be reliable and the mpg on forecourt derv will still give me a big saving versus the Subaru. Doesn't sound like there's that much in it as far as I'm concerned. Does the HDI have more noticeable torque as some of the climbs are steep and the petrol Forester is too heavy and weary at hill climbs. Current score - HDI 7/10 & XUD 6/10 based on the above help. I assume the HDI is a safer option too with it being a later model?

HDis have 154lb/ft as standard to the dt's 145, but there's really not much in it.
