Boost Problem
#1
Well today i give the max fuel screw another bit and when i took it for a test drive when changing into 2nd gear i heard this pop noise, nearly like a pipe coming off or something piercing a hole in a pipe? Checked most of the pipes i can see but dont see where the problem is? Its a KKK Turbo.

Hopefully! its not the turbo. There are no signs off White/Blue smoke and no oil leaking anywhere. Which is making me think this is a pipe issue, am i right?! When i put the foot down, it dies where the turbo should be kicking in and throws out some black smoke.

Can anyone help? Where else could i check etc Sad.

Turbo has done 104k miles and was given 4 turns (FOR ONE DAY lol if even)

Properly check over every pipe, although if it's standard there is only one boost pipe, so I would remove it and check it. Also check and replace the little d seal on the intercooler.

The intercooler was taken off to get at star hex screw on a bracket which was joined onto both the intercooler and top of lda lid. The d seal would hardly lose all boost would it?

Either blown the pipe off the turbo.. or the turbos shat itself. Thats my guess's anyway Tongue

takes a small leak to lose boost ....so yes a d seal could be it

Should every motor factor basically sell the d seal for a intercooler?

Could i check by putting some water or something around near this seal to see what it does?

spray wd40 around the seal see if it bubbles

Surely if your spraying wd40 around if any is getting into the inlet the revs would be rising.

Right so yesterday i took the intercooler off again, along with the boost pipe and the induction pipe.

I looked in the turbo there is NO play in the shaft at all and it moves round freely!

The boost pipe looks ok to me, theres a few wee dents in it which possibly are split but ive taped them over to see what it does. Im going to get a d seal tomorrow morning and put it on and see what happens.

If this doesnt solve it, i have no idea what the problem is :/. Could the turbo be wrecked on inside if running at too high of boost?

Around 1.7 bar.. it was only at this for a day if even and the turbo was never screwed at before.

that might be your problem, just a bit too high for the stndard kkk, highest you should safely go is about 18 psi, so 1.5 bar

1.2bar is 18psi

1.5bar is 22psi

I may have been lucky but I've ran a few k14 s at 26psi all day for a fair few thousand miles without one popping - 18psi really isn't that bigger deal over stock

my bad!

but still, 1.7 bar is wayyy to high for a kkk

The shaft itself is still in perfect condition though with no play in it? aw would it be more internal than that?

K14's are manly little turbos, ive known them to take 30psi for years with no bother.

It would have had to be really worn out and on its last legs to have just gone suddenly at ~26psi.

...was going to say; my K03 was boosting 30psi happily; as much as people say they can't take it, mine took it fine (allbeit on an MBC so was at 25psi most the time)

After having a few K03s, unless they are brand new they won't take it for long... They can't take it and from what I've heard your old car's turbo makes a racket...

Correct.

Still running?

that's 7 months now, running de-filtered also, hence the noise; the noise hasn't changed since day 1

I am not getting any boost at all mate. took the induction pipe of the side of the turbo and there is no play in the shaft at all! and it can spin round freely Huh

Take the intercooler off and start her up. Give her a rev whilst holding your hand to the boost pipe to see if its blowing good and strong.

f*ck that 30psi all day long haha Smile

This was my K14 which popped impeller feels great no play whatsoever but look at hot side, but you would have noticed if this happend as i lost pretty much all the engine oil through exhaust travelling back 2 miles haha

This ran 30/31 for a good 4 months but i upped fuel to see what the limit was but had spare turbo ready to go on

if 30 psi was good it would of lasted years not 4 months lol

but on a real on k14's/t2's shouldn't be going over 1.5bar and on k03's/gt15's 1.2bar if you want it to last and be reliable as anything over them the turbo will be spinning to fast and will cause a Cwspellowe incident Popcorn

Started her up there, and revved her and held my hand where the boost pipe goes and nothing came out. Itwasntme

**edit.. Good excuse/kick up the arse to get this isuzu turbo on.. Smile #alwayslookonthebrightside lol
