Have a ganders at your engine mounts. Normally bottom one to knock. If they all look fine, get the wheels in the air and see if you can find any play.

Bottom ones arnt the nicest because the o/s driveshaft has to come out. If its either of the top ones, there quite easy.
Just don't do what I did and drop the gearbox mount without anything under the gearbox lol

Gbox mount was 8 quid, top was 12 and I haven't done the bottom but it should be cheap. Needs pressing though.

Sounds like bottom mount or a cracked chassis around the top mounting point.
Grab the top of the engine and rock it and see where it moves

can you feel the knock through the gearstick and steering wheel? could be subframe bolts coming loose.. mine came loose during an autotest once, thought it was a snapped engine mount until i lifted off on the way home and the steering wheel started moving back and forth..
