1996 d turbo

New to the 306 game. I bought a 306 d turbo. 99,000 miles on a 1996 with one lady owner. The car had been sat for 5 years.

For the mot I had to get welding done and a new torsion beam as there was no play. It had been lowered. I ordered a refurb'd one and is now fitted. It seems to sit really high even though I asked the axle boys to lower 20mm and it still feels like theres no play and got new shocks. Is this normal? If so how easy will it be to lower myself. there shouldn't be any play in the axle, its worn out if there is.

if you are confident with spanners then look up the article about adjusting ride height and crack on, if its new and properly assembled it'll be a straightforward task, if it was from IM axle the god help you.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

Yeh it's from IM axle mate. I asked for it to be lowered 20mm but doesn't seem likely. I'm learning with the tools mate, quite handy and not daft do that helps though. How come it will be harder if from IM? Cheers

Welcome to the club. When you say no play do you mean the suspension doesn't move when you put weight on the rear of the car? It should, quite freely.

Don't follow the 'nick' method of adjusting beam height. That involves only removing the torsion bar at one end and will shorten the life of your bearings. You have to remove the torsion bar from both the swing arm and the beam tube, adjust the swing arm height and then re-insert the torsion bar. (It will need rotating until it slots in). You can make very fine levels of adjustment that way).

The best guide, in my opinion, was written by Welshpug above. He's a resident expert both here & on the gti-6 site!

Cheers mate. There us plenty of stuff for me to guide myself. This 306 malarkey and forum stuff is all new to me[emoji23][emoji23] I'm getting the car back tomorrow to I will get tore in soon.
That ride height is too much and i cant be dealing with it[emoji2961]
