td_dan's 205 stdt rust bucket (finally updated)
#1
Here iv bought a 205 stdt it was advertised as non running as someone had drilled his fuel tank and he had sold a few bits and pices off it. He wanted £250 but after abit of the chatting and me fixing his laptop i got it for £100 lol. Once i got it home i thought id see if i could get it started so after abit of wiring and my mates battery it started straight away first turn of the key. What a smile i had.

so the work began i removed the tank and cleaned out the garage ready for it to be stored ready for some more work.

so far iv bought
â?¢ new springs and shocks
â?¢ new tank
â?¢ new black dash
â?¢ new headlights and indicators
â?¢ new rear lights
â?¢ red carpet.
â?¢ complete set of new arches
â?¢ complete interior

im hoping to fit the 306 dt engine and get it looking alot fresher with the gti interior and gubbins. anyway a few pics

all comments welcome and the dodgy wiring isnt staying it was just to get it firing

The next phase after I got it started was to remove the tank with holes in leaving me with this.

I also removed ALL the interior.

And I got a couple of stubborn bolts.

The garage with all the scrap.

After doing some poking in the engine bay I found this behind the headlights.

And thatâ??s where I am so far. Iv been quoted £100 for the welding. Iâ??ve also removed the driveshafts and drained all the fluids aswell.

I also bought some underbody seal today ready for when the weldings done i can start painting.

Not sure what colour to do it yet iv been contemplating with matte white with gloss black gti trim and the red line going through. It will be done in the garage so donâ??t really want to gohave to laquer so thatâ??s why im going matte.

C+C welcome.

Nice project, I have a 205 sat in the barn that i really should sort out, that was also £100 lol

As for colours, you can still have gloss without lacquer! just use 2k paint and a good mask Smile

It is indeed, the plan is to sort it for MOT and then sell it in spring sometime unless insurance is cheap as feck on it and then I might consider keeping it (don't tell the mrs........)

While you are on with swapping things around you want to get the lower arms off a 309 GTi, give you some nice camber on the front as they are slightly wider than the 205 ones Wink

the handling difference when combined with uprated shocks is amazing, not so good for the front tyres but who worries about that anyway...........

not a bother pal, as i know some of these old cars now are little hard to find in scrappies, like i say if anything you need and your unable to get hold of where you are, i dont mind having a pop down and seeing if the 205s that are in have what you need. Wink

UPDATE TIME:

well i never made it to wrexham due to a text message from the seller saying that his dad had scrapped the bonnet Sad anyways silver lining, i went and picked up an engine stand and went up the garage

XUD7 is now bare iv removed the alternator, turbo, starter, clutch and gearbox and sensors ready for the XUD9. Ill be fitting the xud9 gearbox though as the rev range is pretty shit with xud7 box. checked today and the stdt shafts actually fit the xud9 box get in Smile

will get pics tomorow as the engine isnt on the stand yet due to not having long enough bolts, thought the gearbox ones would work but there too short.
