Rear beam stiff on one side
#1
Hi,

Ive got a 306 hdi estate and the rear beam is really stiff on one side only

The stiff side literally doesn't move so making the ride really hard (unbearable) over any type of bump / pothole.

From reading I can see this is probably down to worn trailing arm bearings? would this cause the axle to not move what so ever?

I was hoping that it would be a seized shock absorber, has anyone ever had the same symptoms from a seized rear shocker?

When I jack this side up the wheel doesnt move what so ever so dont really have to jack it very high.

The other side you have to keep jacking as the suspension is depressing.

Any help will be much appreciated.

beam is screwed. if its that siezed its probably done the cross tube in as well. either source a second hand beam or speak to stef on here. he rebuilds them for a budget cost for members only. and apparently does a cracking job.
On a break from 306oc for personal reasons. If anyone needs or wants me most of you have my number and or facebook messenger
Thanks for the good times guys n gals. I might be back. Who knows.

I can confirm sadly that it is the trailing arm that is seized!! Could this axle still be rebuilt?

Looking at getting a 2nd hand axle now.
Is there an easy way to tell if there f*cked whilst there off the car? Without stripping it right down? Thanks

Go under the car you intend to take the beam from and push the body up and down, if it creaks...move to next 12+ year old 306 and hope thats not the same Wink

lmao Yes there is. A f*cked beam will have symptoms like all suspension does when it's f*cked. Knocking, squeaking, play in the trailing arm, camber etc.. I accept it's hard to tell and yes, off the car it can be very difficult/impossible to tell.
