Wiring In Fans. I R Stupid
#1
Right, engine fans don't work, the traffic I sit in after work causes the car to get hot in the current weather so I want to put in the slim fan I have.

I've drawn a rather crude diagram of how I think the wiring needs to go. I'm basing this on a diagram Cully gave me before and some stuff I searched on here. It's 12v 80w so I know that means a 6.66 amp draw, a 7.5amp fuse will do.

I'm thinking this cable will be adequate: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/twin-core-10a-...etre-xs71n
With this fuse holder: http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-a...lder-20amp

Can I use a relay from the car? I have some spares from the old car. 3 greens, 1 grey and 1 orange.

Finally, I have a spare space next to the passenger airbag switch and a spare hazard light switch that I was thinking of using so it kinda looks OEM still lol Haynes is telling me I'd need pins 1+7 on that I believe.

Thanks for any help, I tend to stay away from electrics. (God knows how I managed to work in somewhere that made very technical electrical stuff for 18 months)

Non. Tried that about half hour ago by bridging the connections and nothing happened. They've never worked and I don't know which part of the system is letting it down.

I only vaguely understand that, hence my shite diagram. That is also adding one onto the current system, which doesn't work somewhere.

Do I have to wire it into the ignition?

Yes, otherwise you'll leave the switch on and flatten the battery :-)

Is that the only reason? You would hear them when the engine was off though.

connect pin 30 too 85 on the relay and dont connect 85 to the ing but run the risk of a flat battery

What would be suggested to use for connectors? I'm thinking to use these types from Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-interme...blue-n35cy

Is there something better? I'd use those for connecting the relay and switch. I intend to solder the power>fan one.

Wired the fans on both mine.

Just wired straight into the fan plug itself, fed wires through the dash and into a switch placed in the panel where the headlight adjust is. Connect as usual. Use a multimeter to check the switches continuity and then bridge over each wire on the fans to see which they kick in (either single high speed or both at low speed). Wired mine for both at low speed.

It's not the best way to wire them in, but it does work.
