Which do I go see tomorrow! New car needed!

Looking at cheapy 4x4 options, these two are both fully loaded and tick a lot of boxes. Opinions?

can we avoid the "OMG GET THE NISSAN DIESEL LOLZ" comments please. I'd wager the mpg on the diesel are very conservative and i'd be far more likely to get the stated MPG on the petrol.

nissans are a bomb to fix I have been told, so be wary of that one. the Honda looks good motor, can you not stretch to a disco? Don't touch anything to do with Jeep mind!

Get the nissan imo, although i suspect you'll find both annoyingly plasticky.

Discoveries look a bit long, im more in the small size 4x4!

Suprisingly that Nissan is 20cm shorter than the Honda!

I'd go for the nissan purely as it's a diesel and 4x4s eat fuel.

If you could find a 2.2 CDTi Honda then get that, the honda is a good car.

tried a 2.2 honda, but seemed gutless. Might have been a dodgy one. Walked away as the dealer seemed desperate to get rid of it.

Need to check Katie on the handbrake in the Honda, its a funny arrangement.

That stated MPG is achievable with a light foot according to Honda forums.

Been to the moon and back! Seems a LOT of money for that milage.

The 2.2 CRDi is a truly brilliant engine for the era, I've been in them in accords and civics and they f*cking shift.

chances are that's been over a broad and back a few times, you not looked at the free lander 2? as that's better than the 1st generation

Not liking the interior of the freelander. Theyre a bit early 90s poverty spec.

ah bugger! jeep liberty would have been in the budget for you, but the support and reliability is very questionable! My dad had one and it cost a stinking fortune to fix, not to mention sourcing parts, and getting some one to read the fucker too! He part exd it for the landy after it caused another problem with the alternator, laugh is now, the Jeep isn't on the road now! as we ran a check on it. So my parents had put well over 1400 down the drain, on suspension, two sensors and an alternator.

Real world 29mpg max at 70mph in the Honda. My folks have had one for years and drive really slowly..

It's not great off road but has been great for 30k miles.

Those hyundai santa fe things are actually pretty good imo. Problem is all these are mostly designed for the shopping trolley market, so if you're actually going to use the 4x4 drive i'd take a look at some other options.

Not going to be heading into the wilderness, just want sometime to be ok on light snow for a nervous wife.

Plus something higher up, so she can see more!

That Santa Fe is less than 1 mile away, gonna go see it today.

Now to be honest I was torn between the Alfa & the 306, unfortunately (or fortunately) my brother in law mechanic rules with his head and told me to get the Pug

That Alfa uses the GM engine unfortunately, I wouldn't have another after the Vectra.

What engine was in the Focus to struggle up hill lol? Even the 1.6 TDCi can manage hills....as long as you drop a couple of gears. lol

I was in 5th, but it was on about 2k rpm! id expect diesel grunt to do something!

Diesel grunt? Its a 1.8TDCi... Not a 2.2 Honda! Tongue

Seriously though, wouldn't bother with the 1.8 if you can help it. People only buy them to avoid DPFs...before realising how many other faults they have. lol
