VE pump cracked...thoughts?

Bought a 406 to repair up for a friend in need.

Fuel leak was reason for sale. Turned out to be cracking casing.

So I stripped it down for interest...

Hope you can see the crack

Done 210k miles. Never been apart, was a bit grotty but nothing out of place or badly worn.

I wonder if some metal dirt got in?! Never seen one crack before without something else fail

No idea. But I would suspect something else to be wrong as well personally. Could just have been an imperfection though.
